That was a great fucking read. I agree 100% that the Illusion albums are among the greatest ever released. For me, every time I listen to those cd's I discover something new even though I've been listening to these albums for over 12 years. It's a shame though that a lot of people think they are over produced or pompous or whatever.

"Whether 'Chinese Democracy' breaks records or sales plateau's is not the point."
This wraps up my feelings about Chinese Democracy. It amazes me how many people on this forum are caught up in sales figures for the eventual release. All I want is, as Anthony Kuzminski puts it, an emotional roller coaster. I hope the album does well for the band's sake, but how many copies it sells bares little on how it will reflect on my enjoyment of the material.
Great article about the Illusion Discs. It's ironic a bit that the band did release simultaneous albums. The weight of the two discs seemed to have catapulted the band on a trajectory that, in the end, was too big to keep everyone together. At the same time, because they were so ambitious and the tracks were numerous, we have 30 songs to listen to that we might not otherwise have had they decided to just release one album.
Good read.
Cheers,
Andrew

Do record stores still open at midnight for new releases? or has the internet spoiled that?
Also I hope CD does well on the pure basis that it keeps the label happy and creates less strife for the band, so that their focus can and will always remain on music.
I mean if CD was a total flop (which I doubt) that could potential cause some problems.....

I specifically remember being in college and it really was a big deal. Most of the guys were talking about these albums coming out and the one local music store ( There were no Best Buys around at that time) had this big sign posting " 2 new Guns N Roses albums out....." with the day
A bunch of us went , bought and brought back and I listened to those fucking things over, and over, and over and over
The good ole days

Actually Locomotive has ALWAYS been my fave GNR song, from the simple drum beat to open it up to the riff making you feel like you're being hit by a train, to the leads between all the verses and the lyrics.... my god those lyrics. I didn't fully understand them until I was about 15 or so but man they're great.

Agreed, "Locomotive" is a true masterpiece. Beautiful piece of music, spanning the emotional globe, from anger to playfulness to sadness. Beautiful lyrics and melodies and music.
