Happy Birthday Guns N Roses - Appetite For Destruction beer

This is the soundtrack of my life, 20 years ago I thought I knew it all rocking out in front of the mirror as a blonde haired blue eyed 7 year old boy, to Slippery When Wet. Bon Jovi were the fucking shit, the baddest fuckers I had ever encountered in music.

My big brother & his pal came in and said, "Boy, you need help, check this shit out..."

In went a cassette into my first ever sound system, a wee 2 deck casssette ghetto blaster, I got for a birthday- it was portable, but you needed to plug it into the wall, yeah!! You do the maths, thank you mum & dad Cool

The tape went in and that was it - Guns N' Roses music gave me shivers, scared me (what if my mum came in and heard Axl shouting " I'VE GOT SOMETHING I'VE BEEN BUILDING UP INSIDE...FOR SO FUUUCKING LONNNNNG!!!!!!"
Their music made me cooler than anyone in my class at school cause I took the tape in on walkman and played the swear words to my wee freinds, nobody had ever heard anything like it, nobody had ever sounded like Axl Rose, and the riffs that Slash came out with? drool - that was just unbeleivable - those riffs, that music, the vocals everything about it became the benchmark for the rest of my life.
Undoubtably I never really "got it" the way an adult would, but the actually quality of the music meant that it did not matter, I could blast this music and find musical pleasure and enjoyment, singing along to words I did not understand. Me and my big brother used to get pots and pans out and fucking tennis rackets and pretend we were GN'R -Mr Brownstone we used to perform in the sitting room in front of mum and dad, they didnt know what to do.

I remember waking up one sunday morning and my folks telling us they had taped something off the telly for us the night before, we stuck in the old betamax tape in and it was GN'R live - it was only the legendary Ritz performance, brilliant, still to this day one of the most considerate things they have done.

I remember watching it and Paradise City came on and my Dad was like, "Oh for gods sake, I think we know this song.."

It was my brothers favourite and he had a sixty minute tape with nothing but Paradise City on repeatedly, which he had been playing to death for months and months driving everybody up the wall.

Happy days Cry

Have a good day everyone ok

*Its also the first anniversary of GNR playing Scotland for the first time - So Happy, 21st July 2006 SECC Glasgow Anniversary Scottish Gunners beer

Well, today's the day...

Let's see what we'll get from Japan... Just another show? Or a special show with the entire album played live...

Yeah, I wouldn't EXPECT anything too special.  But it'll be interesting to see if Axl at least makes mention of it.  Possibly not since the current band really has nothing to do with AFD.

Wow 20 years eh! Seems a fucking long time now, but i can remember the day I went to buy it. It had only been out about a week and my mate who was a bit older than me, 14 maybe said I had to get this album by a band called Guns N Roses because it was just so cool! So off I trotted with my bus fare and some money from my savings account. I got it from the Oxford branch of WH Smith. Came straight out and popped it into my walkman. Fucking Hell!! Suffice to say the rest is history, I was in awe and hooked straight away, even as an 11 year old kid! My mates who were all older liked Bon Jovi, Motley Crue & Poison so thats all they listened to and I really was never that impressed. Then this freight train played into my ears on a bus on the way home from Oxford 20 years ago!! It's been an awesome ride being a guns fan!!

APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION Marks Its 20th Year

As the modern incarnation of Guns N? Roses currently storms across Japan on a successful concert tour highlighted by an appearance in front of a packed house at the world-renowned Budokan Hall, today marks the twentieth anniversary of a rock album that has had a most profound impact on American culture. ?Appetite For Destruction? is the second-largest selling debut record in history, having sold 15 million records in the United States alone and 25 million across the globe.

When ?Appetite? hit the shelves in record stores across the US on June 21st, 1987, the buzz on the Gunners was building slowly. Most rock listeners had little idea exactly what kind of rock n? roll hellride was in store for them. Having brought a new level of rock n roll excess to Hollywood?s famed Sunset Strip, the ?most dangerous band in the world? was now ready to take on the world with charismatic frontman W. Axl Rose leading the classic lineup, rounded out by guitarists Izzy Stradlin? and Slash, bassist Duff McKagan and drummer Steven Adler. Guns N? Roses combined traditional rock sounds with punk rock and blues on ?Appetite? to form a rock sound that reflected the gritty realities of street life. The band?s emergence on the national scene signaled the end of the safe and calculated style of hair metal and re-ignited the entire rock genre.

Primed for controversy, the young, streetwise band was so edgy and out of control, it was necessary for label Geffen Records to censor the record?s original ?pornographic? album cover as well as bury the band?s bondage-laced first video clip, the anarchic UK single. ?It?s So Easy.? Named after the Robert Williams painting that adorned the censored album cover, ?Appetite? ushered in a new era of rock music with imaginative songwriting and intense performances.
The uncensored record cover, based upon a tattoo on the forearm of singer Rose, is an instantly recognizable image of the individual band member?s skulls upon a colorful cross.

?Appetite For Destruction? was produced by Mike Clink and recorded at three studios, Rumbo, Take One and Can Am. Three tracks from the album were released as singles in the US, ?Welcome To The Jungle,? ?Sweet Child O? Mine? and ?Paradise City,? all of which receive substantial airplay on rock radio to this day. The track ?Mr. Brownstone,? although never released as a proper single, also enjoys plenty of attention from radio stations. By the end of its first year of release, the record had been certified Gold by the RIAA. ?Sweet Child O? Mine,? the record?s second single was the song that established GN?R as an international rock sensation. Since then, it?s become one of the best-loved songs in the entire history of rock music.

Over the years, high praise has been bestowed upon the album by prominent media outlets, scoring a five star rating from both Rolling Stone and All Music Guide. Kerrang! called ?Appetite? the #1 album of all time. The record has scored impressively amongst dozens of best album polls.

A landmark in the history of rock music, ?Appetite For Destruction? is a bona fide rock phenomenon that?s left an indelible mark upon millions.

Guns N? Roses wraps up its Japanese tour this evening with an appearance in Osaka, Japan.

Last show in Japan.

July 21st.

20 years since Appetite For Destruction was released.

I don't see any special release coming from the record company.

Do you think there's any chance of getting anything?

P.S.: Don't start shit with negative comments.
