I've heard Ants Invasion and Loaded, they sound decent but Billy Morrisson has in my opinion a the type of voice that's become really cliche in the "post grunge" era, and these songs don't really strike me as the ass kicking type of rock I was anticipating after reading about this band.  How does the rest of the album compare to these songs?

Not sure I see/hear the "post grunge" correlation, he's a Brit who's influences lie in punk rock.

Anyway.

The record is how Billy describes it for the most part, hard fast and dirty.  If you like crunchy riffs, catchy hooks and a few really good sing a long chorus' is a must have.

Yesterday: Ozzfest at White River

Circus Diablo followed and played good old rock and roll. The highlight of their set was a cover of the Sex Pistols "Pretty Vacant." Bill Duffy of the Cult is in this band, but not at this show, unfortunately. Still it's hard not to have fun with this kind of rock.

"LOADED" is getting alot of airplay here in the states.  A very good first single.

CIRCUS DIABLO ? the new project featuring THE CULT guitarist Billy Duffy, THE ALMIGHTY frontman Ricky Warwick (guitar), ex-THE CULT touring bassist/current CAMP FREDDY guitarist Billy Morrison (vocals), and former FUEL/current RIDERS ON THE STORM frontman Brett Scallions (bass) ? is currently touring the U.S. as part of Ozzfest 2007. Morrison has issued the following report from the road:

"I'm typing this as I sit in the back of a completely full flight from Las Vegas to Portland. I came offstage at The Gorge [in Washington] and jumped straight into a waiting car that whisked me off to Seattle airport and down to Vegas in time to DJ at the opening of the Slash case at the Hard Rock. Slash was celebrating the opening with Robert Knight, the amazing rock photographer who has shot pretty much everyone in the genre, and I was lucky enough not only to have been photographed by Robert many times, but to be invited to DJ at the party for him and Slash. So that's exactly what I did! I timed everything to perfection, so that no shows would be cancelled, and I am now reflecting on the crazy journey I just made as I sit crammed into the tiny plane, flying me back to my bandmates, the good old tour bus, and a club show in Portland, OR.

"The Gorge was a fantastic show ? totally punk rock, and the audience again were just amazing. To go up there in between the other heavy heavy bands is a challenge, and we love it. And so, it appears, do the Ozzfest crowd. As I have been saying in interviews, the Ozzfest is a very special festival. It embraces everything that is good about rock music, and the audience is not stupid. They welcome good, loud, honest rock?..and it doesn't matter where it comes from. We have killed it at the first two Ozzfest shows, and its because we can feed off the audience. We see them screaming, shouting, smiling, punching the air, moshing and headbanging to our music. THAT shit right there is why I do it. So much fun!!"

Morrison has issued the following report from the road:

"Things are going great and we are having a lot of fun out here. And the Ozzfest audiences are welcoming us everywhere. Yesterday's show in Sacramento was no exception. By the time we finished playing, everyone was punching the air, and moshing around in a massive pit. We played really well. As I write this, we are on our way to Dunlop (makers of fine pedals, strings, picks etc.) to see our boy Scott Uchida, before rolling into 'Frisco for a day of sneaker shopping! Market Street is really a cool spot to find some nice Dunks, so you know where I'll be headed.

"CIRCUS DIABLO has been very cathartic for me, and just seeing the band and crew rolling around the country in a bus, promoting the record that we are all so proud of, makes me feel content. The fact that we are winning audiences over, and sounding so good is a huge bonus, but seeing it received so well, and knowing that we accomplished what we set out to do is my pay day. I watch you lot post and form communites, organize CD parties, come out to see us play... it's just fucking incredible. And it makes me (and the band) feel like we able to connect, to touch, to relate. I hope you feel the same way.

"The video shoot has been scheduled for Monday (July 23). It's on our only day off, but who cares! 'Loaded' is ripe for a good, hot, rock and roll vibey video, so that's what we are gonna do. From what I can tell, it's a 'chicks, cars, guns, guitars'-type vibe. I'm sure they'll explain more soon, but right now, all I know is we shoot on Monday. And there will be the 'TV' version and the 'Web' version. The web version will be the nice, juicy, hot one ? so I'll post it when we have the final edit."

Circus Diablo's Brett Scallions

Brett Scallions could be the subject of a Six Degrees of Separation game - give or take a few links.

The Circus Diablo bassist is the current lead singer for Riders on the Storm (featuring The Doors' Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger), whose former vocalist Ian Astbury leads reunited '80s rockers The Cult.

Onetime Cult drummer Matt Sorum (now in Velvet Revolver) and founding guitarist Billy Duffy both appear on Diablo's self-titled debut disc.

"I totally grew up a Cult fan," admitted Scallions, 35, from his family's new home in Los Angeles. "To be able to be in a band with (Duffy) and play shows with him is pretty exciting for me."

From 1989-2006, Scallions scored two platinum-selling CDs and half a dozen modern/mainstream rock radio hits ("Shimmer," "Hemorrhage," "Innocent," "Bad Day") as singer/guitarist in Fuel.

He had been playing bass in The X's when friend and fellow vocalist Billy Morrison of all-star L.A. cover band Camp Freddy caught a gig and asked Scallions to join Circus Diablo (rounded out by ex-Almighty guitarist Ricky Warwick and live drummer Charles Ruggiero).

Discovering his lower profile job "is one of the things that makes people's heads spin around," said Scallions.

"It's not every day you see a lead singer turn and drop the center point to do something like bass guitar ... that's what it's all about - not being a one trick pony (and) utilizing all the talents you have."

The Circus Diablo disc is filled with several potent hard rock tunes ("Loaded," "Restless," "Red Sun Rising"), plus an alluring power ballad ("Shine") that should appeal to Velvet Revolver fans.

"It's a fun record, isn't it? Heavy melodic rock 'n' roll - I love that." One surprise is a raucous take on "Ants Invasion" by Adam & the Ants."

Billy Morrison has described Diablo as a perfect place for misfits and weirdos. Scallions agreed. "There's plenty of freaks in this band, for sure."

Before heading out on Circus Diablo's inaugural tour, Scallions said everyone was excited "to get settled in, try on our new skin" and make a big impact at OzzFest.

"You want to go out with a big gun and lay the powerhouse setup (so) people talk about you when they leave the show."

Considering the members' prior track records, Scallions was confident everything would run smoothly.

"There are no greenhorns in this band ... we've all been to the rodeo before, so we know exactly what to expect."

Scallions plans to squeeze in some Riders on the Storm dates (including an Aug. 11 Pacific Amphitheatre gig in Costa Mesa with Paul Rodgers, $35-$65) amid Diablo tours. A substitute bassist will fill in.

Was he apprehensive about stepping into the shoes of the late Jim Morrison in Riders?

"No, I welcomed it with open arms. I love a good challenge. Jim Morrison is and always will be one of the greatest front men and poets and rock stars that anyone will ever see."

He tries to make the classic Doors material "sound as great as I can ... (yet) I am absolutely nothing like Jim Morrison. I'm blonde-haired and blue eyed. I've got a baritone voice, but not as deep and rich and heavy as Jim's. I pride myself on being a good singer. I go out and try to do the songs justice."
