I haven't got this issue yet. Will buy it soon though.
Is it completely serious in saying that Nirvana ruined everything or is it more light-hearted? If it's serious, then that's stupid.

Band's like Nirvana almost sent rock to the grave. That's why rap got so big, they weren't afraid to be entertainers.

I tend to think it was the Seattle bands and GnR that saved us from the crap that was FM in late 80s - early 90s.

Nothing over the last 15 years is as good as 80's music.

I tend to disagree. I think the 90s was the golden age of rock:
GN'R- UYI era
Nirvana
Pearl Jam
NIN
Manson
Soundgarden- their best work
Alice In Chains
Mudhoney
Stone Temple Pilots
Filter
Bush- yeah, they're good
Sneaker Pimps
Garbage
Elastica
Smashing Pumpkins
Tons of great music.

How can you blame Nirvana and rap that rock went from awesome to shit?
Rap took over the market that rock lost, it didn't steal it!
90's were awesome especially the first half, it started to go downhill since 97 - that's the time when Girl/boy groups started to emerge which are the lowest form of bands ever, no wonder teenagers turned to rap

These bands filled the last decade of last century. They came at the end of one of the most bloodiest centuries in history - those 'industrial bands' kind of topped off the century nicely (it began with industry, it ended with industry)...........the smart musos from the 80s let these younger bands take the last decade of the century because who wants to be known as so last century!
Those who were quiet in the last 10 years, lets call them 'the end years' are now making their power moves........yes, we all watched The Terminator.......

Nirvana didn't ruin shit.
They got rid off some horrible 80s music that was still around at the time.
The record companies who started turning out watered down versions of "grunge" bands ruined it.
If you were into rock music, the early 90s were great.
You could actually have MTV on because they'd play great rock music.

yeah but they also got rid of talented rock bands with it.....
so technically they did, then they were followed by generations of shit chord only bands with shit singers, not style, no balls.

jarmo, what they did was make it not cool to be a rockstar, all the benfits that come with where all of a sudden deemed not cool! and many bands have tried but get slated for being excessive or 80's wannabe's, best example i can think of are hinder, but i'm sure there others.

Just like what punk did in the 70s.
Things go in cycles....
The whole scene had gotten old, people wanted new.
