making up the title of the song first? That's what I do, bad habit. I come up with a clever song title, then work on the song afterwards.

I use to do that but here lately I'll write a complete song and just make up something that best sums up the song.

The last two I am currently working on however, I came up with The Title and the storylines first.

Songs seem much easier to write when u do that.

I usually come out with a good line for a song and then play around with it til it makes a chorus or verse. then I write the song in the same vein that this line came in.

I don't think it's always a bad habit, sometimes it can help set the mood/lyrical pattern or theme for the song which can make it easier to write. - Too often I've sat down to write a song, rambled on for a bit & produced somthing of a mess.

On the other hand it does often lead to quite simple/shallow songs that are easy to write but fairly meaningless or "filler" material.

It varies lots... I'll work out a song and freestyle the vocals and sometimes I'll just freestyle the whole thing, sometimes a verse or a  few bars... get a idea and go from there, other times I write a entire song and scrap parts or.......god theres ways man..... thats all i can say. but to answer your ?... yeah I have done that before, but not all the time

man, i thought i was bad haha. yeah, i do that all the time. i have to think of a song title to base the song on, otherwise i won't feel like it's complete, even if i've only managed to come up with a few riff ideas. also, i'm doing my own solo project, and sometimes i can't even bring myself to get into songwriting seriously because i can't think of a name to release the project as. but lately i've been trying to snap out of it and realise that i'm an idiot thinking that far ahead when i haven't even got a full completed song that i am ready to record / put out.
