Thus spake the Super-Guru...Did you hear that?

« Reply #1460 on: October 27, 2006, 05:15:54 PM »

? I think it's funny how "we" are so deprived of info etc. We sit around waiting for a clip of one song.....most here complain that the setlist never changes, well in that case you can watch a clip of that particular song (Take Your Pick) from every MAJOR CITY IN EUROPE THAT THEY PLAYED ! for fuck sakes !

?I have been a die-hard since the very beginning, I know it's really tough being a GNR-Axl fan and I'm going crazy waiting for CD to drop, I (we) have been waiting for 12 years for an Album who gives a rats ass if the "clip" was there on thursday or if it is friday.

?I have a few old video tapes where I used to tape all GNR related things. I watched one of them yesterday, one part was of Slash in Toronto doing PR for TSI and he's saying in the interview how this is going to be the shortest wait between GNR albums ever, it will be out within the year. We all know it turn out to be Snakepit....but I was thinking Christ, I didn't really realize that I've been waiting since then.

?People, calm down, the rewards are going to be awsome, the shows are getting good reviews....Miami has tons of shows it's almost November the critic wrote that the first show of the tour was the best show in southern Fla this year....That's awsome! people love to bash Axl and he's not getting bashed (only for being late....yeah whatever)

?Lighten up ! it's been a great fuckin' year and next will be even better peace

? We'll be the first to know anything ok ?

The first show of the Chinese Democracy Tour, which celebrates the long-awaited, upcoming album that features Axl Rose's latest all-star collection of musicians, went off without a hitch Tuesday night at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Fla.

Found that quote in the article on the website. Seems as if they are doing very little to try and alter the perception that this is nothing more than Axl's solo project when they write lines like that. "Latest all-star collection of musicians" is not the most flattering way to describe what is otherwise supposed to be a serious band effort.

No, I think they're trying to make it seem like slash, izzy, and duff were just another "all-star collection of musicians" and that Axl has been the only 'real' member all along.  they're trying to rewrite GNR history so that all of the musicians coming and going is like it has always been.  pretty lame if you ask me.

And I think it is just an artistic expression from Mr. Doug Miller which sounds pretty damn good and true because all of them are really stars. and really talented musicans who will shine once CD is out.

GnR's legacy is not finished yet. When it's all said and done, Axl is the only original member left and the rest have contributed to GnR's catalogue of music.

hrm, well both of you have obviously bought what they're trying to sell you.   Roll Eyes

I love the new band, but when I was a kid GnR (original lineup) was the baddest shit you could be into.  those guys were rad, and let me tell you, it wasn't just axl.  since the original lineup has dissolved, NOTHING has happend, and for all you guys know CD could really suck and be a big joke in music history.  i'm not expecting that, and i love the new band, but back in the '80s GnR wasn't just Axl it was the whole band.  GnR management is trying to rewrite that history.

@nonlinear

I don't agree, but I am not going down that road again... I am sure no one neglects the past, but lives in present where GN'R are on tour and there is?no Slash, Duff, Steven or even Izzy out there...

I was also shocked when I read that comment. "Axl Rose's latest all-star collection of musicians"... fuck that shit. This is very disrespectfull for the rest of the band. I don't get it. This comment just shows this is not "a band", but a one man show.

I think it would be tedious to mention every band member 100% of the time.  When it was still the old lineup, didn't they almost always just mention Axl and Slash by name (I honestly don't know)?  I understand where everyone is coming from, but since Axl is the most famous and visible member of the band, it makes sense to mention him by name.

That is not to say I don't wish the other bandmates were mentioned more, because I do.  I wonder if we are fighting a battle over what GN'R is when it might just be a semantics issue.

well, I am personally upset by this attitude (management's), because I don't think Izzy, slash, or duff should ever be considered as "Axl's collection of all-star musicians".  Axl and GNR would be nothing without those guys, Axl didn't own them.  keep in mind that Izzy was one of the primary songwriters.

If I believed that GnR's legacy died with it's original members then I wouldn't be on this forum. In order to grow things have to change, if they don't they die. Growth for GnR' pertains to the music, and from what I've heard their on the right path.

^^Trixareforkids,

I'm not arguing with you, and I'm not dissing the new band or anything, please stop insinuating that I am.  All I am saying is that I think the old band deserved more credit than they are being given by management.

i love the new band and i think slash and duff are has-been junkie fuckups, if that makes you feel better.  But they WERE NOT "Axl's collection of all stars"

I'm not saying that I disagree, but "Axl's collection of all star musicians" - and the implications of the word "latest" may have nothing at all to do with the original line up. ?Think about all those affiliated with Guns since the orignial line up feel apart - Josh Freese, Navarro, Wylde, Huge, Buckethead, May, etc. ?Calling a spade a spade, Axl has had a *ton* of "all-star" musicians working on this album for a long time - not counting the original members. ?The current line up, for better or worse, is in fact his "latest collection" of musicians.

Personally, having seen them live this year, I think of them as far more of a band than just "Axl & Co." ?But still, I can see how the statement itself might not have anything at all to do with the original line up...

that's just your interpretation......  I think he just means that Bucket was part of the old collection (just as Josh Freese was part of even older collection), and now it's something different with Frank and the other guys.

the quote clearly states that Chinese Democracy is "the long-awaited, upcoming album that features Axl Rose's latest all-star collection of musicians."  This means that previous albums featured other collections of all-star musicisans.

How can you read that quote and not infer that it alludes to the 65 musicians that have come and gone while working on cd?

because the quote says that Chinese Democracy features Axl's latest lineup.

thus, the previous albums featured Axl's previous lineup.

Plus, chinese democracy likely includes most of the musicians who joined post-finck, not just the latest lineup as we think of it.

it's clear what is being said here.

If I were in the band and was referred to in this way, particularly if I'd contributed to the songs on the forthcoming album as we know Robin at least has, I would be extremely pissed off. This just gives the impression of the members being interchangeable/dispensable which is something the band should surely strive against.

Fuck me, its a video! Go watch some of the Videos from the European tour or something. That should keep you happy.

And that goes out to all the people moaning their fucking heads off, not anyone in particular. Be thankful you have a website and a tour and an album before the end of the year!

Some people are never happy. Jesus.

Thanks Daddy. Glad we've got you to tell us what to think.

Excuse him for being right.? Really, people hit refresh for hours to see a 5 minute video?? We have much more to look forward to.

I don't like being told what I should and shouldn't be thankful for. I'll be thankful when fans are given at least information pertinent to their consistent and admirable support, for instance why shows are postponed at short notice when it appears that the rescheduling was planned several weeks in advance.

Instead we're constantly left to speculation, and naturally given the history, think the worst.

Jarmo and Mysteron do us a great service here by telling us what they can and seemingly trying to find out what they can, but it shouldn't be their job. Management are perfectly capable of writing press releases.

And why not just post the video when the videos ready? It's not like no-one is going to check the site.

It is that reason more than any I thought the comment was in somewhat poor taste. Couple that with the fact that we have "interchangeable" drummers in Brain and Frank, and it seems as if whoever is propogating the website is trying to drive home the notion that "Guns N' Roses" is nothing more than Axl Rose and whoever he shows up with on a given night to play a show or record an album. It is kind of hard to see the situation any other way at this point given the level of consistent turnover in the band.

I think Axl wants GNR to be somewhat like NIN, where Trent Reznor is NIN, and GNR is Axl Rose, personally from here on out as long as Tommy, Finck, and Fortus are there. We got a good band.

Playing devil's advocate, you're still making a bit of a jump.  For example, the band Axl "revealed" at the VMA's is not the same line up currently touring as the CD release date approaches, hence Axl's "latest" line up.  It can easily be implied by the comment that previous GnR albums featured Axl's "previous line ups," but it isn't directly stated...

So what's the problem? Are you pissed at management because they didn't spoon feed you what you wanted to know? Or over a video? Or over someone telling you to be thankful? GNR fans have it pretty good, for having it so bad. We have something to look forward to, constantly. What you call spoon-feeding, others call courtesy and consideration. Spoon-feeding is ramming your opinion down someone's throat and telling them what to think/feel.

But yes, we'll always have plenty to look forward to. When C.D. is finally released we can open the discussions as to where the other 30-some tracks are... ok
