Which of these albums will Year Zero sound like the most?

A. Downward Spiral

B. The Fragile

C. With Teeth

D. Broken

Im just kidding..its a trick question...because ALL those albums sound exactly the same......

That's bullshit. No two NIN albums sound the same.

"Hey this album sounds just like their last album. There is drums, guitars, and this dude singing over them. What the fuck!"

this has got to be a joke. thats the reason why i listen to NIN, cuz every album is vastly different.

Pretty Hate Machine: Evil angsty synth pop

Broken: Metal and synthesizers meet

The Downward Spiral: Combination of everything that made up NIN at the time, synth, distorted guitars, samples, etc.

The Fragile: The addition of gorgeous strings, and bouncy hip hop beats

With Teeth: NIN at the most accesible and "straight ahead rock" it will ever be, live drums for the first time too.

Year Zero: Mixture of the bouncy beats of The Fragile and the noisey/heavy parts of The Downward Spiral

they are completely different, anyone who is a NIN fan knows this.

It is "noisy," but not like TDS. This album doesn't assult you or hit you over the head that way.

No, not by any means.

I can't tell if you are being sarcastic!  Tongue

I know, it's tough with me sometimes-sorry.

I was (and still am) agreeing with you.

I highly doubt that capital G will be the next single.   Since this is a concept album he will likely put out songs that have the greatest message of that concept.  Complaining about the president probably won't be his next choice.  The singles that I think he will choose from will be.

Good Soldier (more than likely the next single)
The Warning (vital to the concept album)
Zero Sum (hopefully released after "The Warning"

I am not questioning how great of a song Capital G is, in fact I love them all.  I wouldn't put any money on Capital G being the next single though.

i agree with you about capital g not displaying the overall concept of the album very well, but  u cant ignore the strength of its hooks and overall catchiness. i still think it will be the next single choice, we'll see.

Writing political songs (anti-bush,etc) has become about as boring as an artist can get! IMO

As long as it's a "cool" thing to do, bands will continue to write political.

Seeing as how Bush is the worst President in our lifetime and things are so bad....

Bush being the worse President is your opinion! It's simply opinionated.

Music is a form of expression and if fans like it fine, they'll listen. If not, than they won't listen.

I assume that we will see a North American tour this summer/fall? For With Teeth, they played theaters the spring it came out, and then the arenas in the fall, winter and following summer.

Entertainment Weekly review of Year Zero:

New 'Year'

Nine Inch Nails' latest makes for riveting, uneasy listening.

By Tom Sinclair

If you missed the elaborate cospiracy theories of the X-Files,you'll love Nine Inch Nails' Year Zero.A sci-fi concept album who's end-of-days,paranoid-drenched story line has been disseminated via the internet,it will appeal to every geek with Fox Mulder's "I Want to Believe" poster on their bedroom wall.(In fact,a key lyric finds NIN majordomo Trent Reznor proclaiming,"I am trying to believe.")

The good news is,it's entirely possible-maybe even advisable-to enjoy Year Zero without trolling dozend of kooky websites.Mostly, this is Captain Trent doing what he's always done:giving musical expression to torment, rage, sadness, lust, and impotence. As usual,he drives his message home with his whisper-to-a-scream vocal melodrama and the most chaotically catchy tunes he and his arsenal of machines can generate.

Amid its carefully calibrated sonic assaults,Year Zero has a number of tracks that will stop you in yours.Sometimes,it's a matter of dropping the volume,as on the muted feedback/piano interlude "Another Version of the Truth." Then there's the element of suprise upon hearing the industrial-strenth Middle Eastern melodic patterns of "The Warning."Even his use of electronics has shifted to a new level:"Vessel" evokes nothing so much as a sentient, schizophrenic computer having a nervous breakdown. Is the truth here?Dunno, but Reznor's claim that "I got my violence in high def ultra-realism" sounds like gospel to us.

okay, i like the album BUT:

what bothers me is the endings of these songs, most of the songs on his other records? (the downard spiral especialy) have an awesome structure that builds and has some kinda of climax type thing at the end. (ruiner, the becoming, all the love in the world etc.) the songs on this record seem like its just verse/chorus/verse/ and just fucking around with noises. it works with Survivalism, Vessel, and works the best with Meet Your Master. that breakdown is fantastic and i wish more songs on the record had breakdowns that are as powerful and perfect as that is. it just seems like alot of these songs build and build and then trent just fucks around with noises(most of the time aimlessly) for the end ot the song and it doesnt feel right.

thats my only complaint, i really like the album i just feel that trent could have done better with the songwriting/song structures.

by the way, i can't wait to hear how these songs translate live drool
