PF Changs...not so cracy about it.  Dressed up Chinese, but not spectacular by any stretch.

by so-cracy you must have meant socratic.  Tongue

Now if had offered a shabu-shabu dinner or Korean BBQ, that would be a different story  drool

i suspect josh is feeling the same now.

From the sound of the replies I gather the places are not for gourmets.

Trent Reznor Responds To Apple: You Want Obscene, I?ll Show You Obscene

by MG Siegler on May 3, 2009

Trent Reznor, the leader of the band Nine Inch Nails is pretty upset that Apple has rejected the latest version of his iPhone app. And rightfully so, the reason for the rejection once again points to Apple?s inconsistencies when it comes to the App Store approval process. While we pointed that out yesterday, Reznor pulls no punches in pointing it out today, in the NIN?s forums.

Here?s what Reznor had to say (warning, it gets pretty graphic):

Now, ?The Downward Spiral? the album is not available anywhere in the iPhone app. The song ?The Downward Spiral? I believe is in a podcast that can be streamed to the app.

Thanks Apple for the clear description of the problem - as in, what do you want us to change to get past your stupid fucking standards?

And while we?re at it, I?ll voice the same issue I had with Wal-Mart years ago, which is a matter of consistency and hypocrisy. Wal-Mart went on a rampage years ago insisting all music they carry be censored of all profanity and ?clean? versions be made for them to carry. Bands (including Nirvana) tripped over themselves editing out words, changing album art, etc to meet Wal-Mart?s standards of decency - because Wal-Mart sells a lot of records. NIN refused, and you?ll notice a pretty empty NIN section at any Wal-Mart. My reasoning was this: I can understand if you want the moral posturing of not having any ?indecent? material for sale - but you could literally turn around 180 degrees from where the NIN record would be and purchase the film ?Scarface? completely uncensored, or buy a copy of Grand Theft Auto where you can be rewarded for beating up prostitutes. How does that make sense?

You can buy The Downward Fucking Spiral on iTunes, but you can?t allow an iPhone app that may have a song with a bad word somewhere in it. Geez, what if someone in the forum in our app says FUCK or CUNT? I suppose that also falls into indecent material. Hey Apple, I just got some SPAM about fucking hot asian teens THROUGH YOUR MAIL PROGRAM. I just saw two guys having explicit anal sex right there in Safari! On my iPhone!

Come on Apple, think your policies through and for fuck?s sake get your app approval scenario together.

Below, find the rejection letter that Apple sent NIN?s developer:

    Follow-up: XXXXXXXXXX

    Dear Craig,

Thank you for submitting nin: access to the App Store. We?ve reviewed nin: access and determined that we cannot post this version of your iPhone application to the App Store at this time because it contains objectionable content which is in violation of Section 3.3.12 from the iPhone SDK Agreement which states:

?Applications must not contain any obscene, pornographic, offensive or defamatory content or materials of any kind (text, graphics, images, photographs, etc.), or other content or materials that in Apple?s reasonable judgement may be found objectionable by iPhone or iPod touch users.?

The objectionable content referenced in this email is ?The Downward Spiral?. Since the app is live on the App store, please make the necessary changes to the application as soon as possible, and resubmit your binary to iTunes Connect. Thank you

    Regards,

    iPhone Developer Program

Guess TR's getting married! Good for him. Glad he's found some hapiness.

Trent Reznor and his girlfriend, Mariqueen Maandig, announced their engagement over the weekend on the Web site of her band, West Indian Girl.

"In case [you] haven't heard the news, Mariqueen got engaged," the post reads. "Everyone in the West Indian Girl camp is super excited and happy for her. Q's an awesome person, friend and bandmate, and she couldn't be marrying a cooler guy. Talk about analog and digital love ? their kids might all have Moogs for arms."

The NIN frontman and the West Indian Girl lead singer went public with their relationship at the "Star Trek" premiere last week in Los Angeles, reports Twentyfourbit.com.

In an interview with Rock Sound in 2005, Reznor talked about how his rock career and drug addiction had delayed marriage and kids for him. But now it appears he has now found time to include that in his life. "I had neglected [my love life], but I've been paying more attention to it," he said. "It feels like I'm more equipped to function in that situation. I can actually be honest with myself and another human being."

"What it had really been was an extension of that 23-year-old kid who said, 'I want to stop everything in my life to do this,' " he told the magazine. "I didn't want a girlfriend or marriage or a kid to get in the way of that opportunity. What that leads to eventually is one day saying, 'Okay, I've sold this many records and played this big place. ... I'm lonely.' Then 'Wow, I'm older than everyone else. How did that happen?' Plus with drugs involved, time just flies off the calendar. So now I'm going to be an old dad instead of a young dad."

I have to wonder about that...I mean, I can't see Trent going away for a long time. I bet we have another NIN by 2015.

Btw, I just got a NIN bootleg called the purest feeling. It's from 1988 and is an earlier version of PHM. Very 80s...Kinda cool if you can find it.

Trent Reznor Swipes at Prince, Rivers Cuomo in Fan Interview

Someone needs to give newly engaged rocker Trent Reznor his own talk show. After blasting Chris Cornell?s Timbaland-produced album Scream on Twitter in March, and even staging an elaborate April Fool?s hoax at the former Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman?s expense, the brains behind Nine Inch Nails is at it again, making more well-known frenemies through his online efforts.

In a recent Digg-related interview, Reznor answered fan questions, then he did a follow-up to respond to 10 more queries from his message board, reports TwentyFourBit. When asked whether there was a stockpile of unreleased NIN material, Reznor set his sights on Prince and Weezer?s frontman. ?I?m not Prince or Rivers Cuomo, who brags about having hundreds of great songs,? Reznor replied. ?And to that I would say, ?Prince, if you have a hundred great songs or a thousand, how about picking a few and putting them on your record that you?ve put out, because your last several have sucked.? Same for you, Rivers. I say that constructively, you know.?

Next, Reznor sort of reflected on his words and snickered, adding, ?I may be happy and engaged but I can still be a prick.? This is the first time Reznor has publicly acknowledged his engagement to West Indian Girl?s Mariqueen Maandig.

Since fulfilling his contract with Interscope and becoming a free agent in October 2007, Reznor has communicated directly with fans via blog posts, Twitters and message-board chats almost exclusively. While still under contract in May 2007 Trent blogged about the record biz misunderstanding fans and overpricing albums. In March 2009, he instructed fans not to buy tickets from scalpers and criticized the secondary-ticket market. Earlier this week, Reznor angrily posted on the NIN message board when his iPhone application update was rejected by Apple: ?You can buy The Downward Fucking Spiral on iTunes, but you can?t allow an iPhone app that may have a song with a bad word somewhere in it.?

In March, Reznor updated his more than 400,000 Twitter disciples with a pithy review of Cornell?s album, which sees the rocker trading in his guitar for a sampler. ?You know that feeling you get when somebody embarrasses themselves so badly YOU feel uncomfortable? Heard Chris Cornell?s record? Jesus,? he wrote.

On April 1st, Reznor added salt to the wound, announcing on his Website that a new Tim-helmed Nails album, called Strobe Light, was on the way, and that it would include the songs ?Everybody?s Doing It? (featuring Coldplay?s Chris Martin, Bono and Jay-Z), ?Coffin On the Dancefloor,? ?Even Closer? (featuring guest spots by Justin Timberlake and Tool?s Maynard James Keenan), ?Laid, Paid and Played? (with Fergie and Ministry?s Al Jourgensen) and ?Still Hurts,? which boasts a duet with Alicia Keys.

Nine Inch Nails and Jane?s Addiction Launch NIN/JA in Florida
5/11/09, 8:45 am EST

Everyone, check your copies of Ritual de lo Habitual: Somewhere, there?s a Dorian Gray-esque portrait of Jane?s Addiction that shows the band members losing their hair and growing paunches. Onstage Friday night in West Palm Beach at the first night of the NIN/JA tour ? Jane?s reunion, Nine Inch Nails? swan song ? the four band members looked a lot like their 1990 selves. Give or take a couple clumsy spills across the Cruzan Amphitheatre stage (maybe those knees don?t work quite like they used to, or maybe it was the bottle of wine he was swigging), singer Perry Farrell was a preening, prancing, silly satyr. And Dave Navarro ? ah, muscled, goateed, chain-smoking, bare-chested, alt-rock guitar icon, thy physique is perfection, and your hammer of the tattooed love god riffs are pretty good too.

Including original drummer Stephen Perkins (rocking a kilt) and secret-weapon bassist Eric Avery (keeping Farrell?s and Navarro?s egos tethered to the bottom), Jane?s came onstage for their first tour in 17 years full of themselves. First there was a short movie that touted the importance of the band?s return to children who never got to see them live and that of course featured JA?s habitual muse: pert-breasted pinups. Then there was Perry doing his Fiddler on the Roof court-jester hip dance, Navarro performing long manic love to not one but two guitars, Perkins soloing with not one but two bass drums, Farrell waving that bottle around like a merry prankster ? and that was just the first song, epic opener ?Three Days.?

The moon was full and Farrell was on home turf, with old high school chums in the audience. Before the encore, he dedicated the show to a friend who had passed. Then the band played a lovely, acoustic ?Jane Says,? with Perkins on steel drums and the audience of course singing along. Interacting little during the previous 70 minutes, the players came together at the end, arms slung across shoulders, the demons that drove them apart at least temporarily quelled.

That unplugged moment was the rare instance when Jane?s Addiction hasn?t pursued the maxim more is more. Even before the dawn of the Nirvana era, they defined alt-rock as progressive music rather than punk. With a darker predilection for pomp, Nine Inch Nails was right there alongside them ? literally, sharing the stage at the first, historic Lollapalooza tour in 1991. That festival broke Jane?s up. Unable to split with himself, Trent Reznor has stuck out the rise and fall of alternative ? until now. ?It?s been a good run,? the Nails head said, sounding pretty banal for the erstwhile dark sex god of industrial thrash. ?Thank you for your support over the years.?

Taking the stage before Jane?s, while it was still light outside, NIN was at a distinct disadvantage ? Reznor does not play summer feel-good hits. He and his three bandmates got straight to their business of calling the world a dark hole full of pathetic humans. Sorry to wax Nietzschean here, but NIN is Apollonian in its pursuit of order, compared to Jane?s Dionysian zest for excess. It?s always been a bit hard to take lyrics like ?If there is a hell I?ll see you there? seriously, but it was even harder with a beach ball bouncing around the audience?s heads.

NIN sounded scary-great on ?Head Like a Hole,? the first song on their first LP, and on a song that Reznor announced they had never played before, a cover of David Bowie?s ?I?m Afraid of Americans.? But the material from in between wore thin. Looking more like a meathead Tom Cruise than Alan Rickman?s black-magic Severus Snape, Reznor has not sipped from Jane?s fountain of youth. But there?s no doubt that his raw power has long spoken to the disturbed souls of goth youth, and when NIN didn?t come back for even one encore, the booing audience clearly felt like something important had been lost. Reznor Tweeted that the PA got shut off, giving him a ?temper tantrum.?

The NIN/JA tour ? which also features Tom Morello?s Rage-esque new band, Street Sweeper Social Club, which debuted in New York a few days before the Florida show ? doesn?t mean that alt rock has hit the oldies circuit. It?s more like catching Genesis and Yes in, say 1985, when their best days were behind them, but you just wanted to say one more farewell. ?Wave Goodbye? Reznor has dubbed this tour. Friday night, it ended a little sooner than he wanted.

A Letter from Trent:

This is for something important. Eric De La Cruz is dying and needs a heart transplant. He keeps getting turned down for a transplant list because he's on Nevada Medicaid, and there are no transplant centers in Nevada. We want to get involved and hopefully so do you, so we're extending a hand. His sister Veronica (former Anchor and Internet Correspondent for CNN) has started a campaign to save his life.

Eric's situation shines a bright light on a broken health care system, and his particular set of problems are being addressed on the political front, aiming for reform in addition to the need for immediate financial help to keep him alive TODAY. I think we can help with the latter.

Here's what we're offering - three options:

If you have a ticket to a NIN/JA show: if you donate $1,000 to this cause, we'll invite you to come hang out with us before the NIN/JA show of your choice. You and a guest can watch soundcheck, eat dinner backstage with us, take pics / get autographs and watch the show from the side of the stage if you'd like.

If you donate $300, you and a friend can join us for soundcheck and a handshaking / hug session before doors open at the NIN/JA show of your choice.

If you do NOT have a ticket to a NIN/JA show: if you donate $1,200 to this cause, we'll invite you to come hang out with us before the NIN/JA show of your choice and provide 2 tickets (best available). You and a guest can watch soundcheck, eat dinner backstage with us, take pics / get autographs and watch the show from the side of the stage if you'd like.

100% of the money collected from this will go directly to Eric's fund.

I hope you'll consider helping out with this.

Sincerely, Trent Reznor
