After that, according to Trent, NIN is disbanding
FUCK.
Hey, better he ends on a high, rather than continueing till hes in his 60s doing substandard performances.
Tour is ending, not NIN.
In a recent interview he said hes going to work with something else (maybe the year zero tv show?) and probably start to record a new NIN album as he gets settled. Hes basically been REALLY busy and just wants to take a short vacation.

From NIN website (12.17.08):
The LIGHTS IN THE SKY era has come to a close, and I'd like to once again thank you for your support. I am very proud of what we pulled off - it was an immense amount of work and worth it all.
I'd like to thank Josh and Alessandro for being an integral part of this for the last few years and I wish them all the best.
No rest for the wicked here, though. We start rehearsing the new band/format first thing next year and as I mentioned, we'll be announcing some final waves of dates. North America, UK/Europe, Pacific Rim and elsewhere.
Oh yeah - we may have a small holiday gift for you soon. Check back.

just found out the show was filmed in HD
let me kno how to get a copy please
NIN arranged a "low security" show for fans to bring cameras etc.
The fan community is compiling the material and turning it into a DVD as soon as they can.

NINE INCH NAILS: High-Definition Video Footage From 'Lights In The Sky' Tour Available - Jan. 7, 2009
High-definition video footage of NINE INCH NAILS' recent concerts in Victoria (Dec. 5), Portland (Dec. 7) and Sacramento (Dec. 12) have been made available for free download at the band's official forum.
NIN mainman Trent Reznor writes on the group's web site. "The internet is full of surprises these days.
"I was contacted by a mysterious, shadowy group of subversives who SOMEHOW managed to film a substantial amount (over 400 GB!) of raw, unedited HD footage from three separate complete shows of our 'Lights in the Sky' tour. Security must have been lacking at these shows because the quality of the footage is excellent.
"If any of you could find a LINK to that footage I'll bet some enterprising fans could assemble something pretty cool."
"Oh yeah, you didn't hear this from me."

I read somewhere, it's going to be a "Year Zero II".
NIN is far from ending.
And yeah is sad that the best line up is done, but NIN will live much longer.

Clever marketing.
Instead of putting together the DVD yourself and pay somebody, you make it seem like a conspiracy ("You didn't hear this from me") and let the fans put together the stuff themselves.

How can someone say "you didn't hear this from me" when he's the one publicizing it??

Good question.
Maybe it'll be revealed in the TV series.

The said yet-to-be an end product will be completely free, so it is impossible to market it.
Also, TR made it "seem like a conspiracy" in same exact way someone who does the
" knock, knock "
part of a knock knock - joke is, not starting a joke no no but instead, in fact requesting an access through a door that is closed, locked or sealed in some other way.
Why else would he go " knock knock " right?
Only comedians do comedy, rockers rock!
I'm sure there has to be SOME negative and greedy and just plan Reznorian evil satanic aspect in releasing 400 gbs of raw HD concert footage for completely free. I mean, surely he didn't just release 400 gbs of raw HD concert footage for completely free.
I think it's safe to assume the torrents install a virus that auto-creates text based screensavers poking fun of Axl.

It's not marketing the DVD itself, it's clever a way to get publicity.
Happy fans, happy TR.

Well..yeaah that's idd what he has been all about for a while now.The whole sharing is caring approach.
But by that defination, isn't everything any band ever does marketing? Little bit broad POV imho.

Yeah, most bands want people to notice them.
But, how do you generate interest. By doing what everybody else is doing or try to do something that's not been done in the past?
Which generates more interest in the media: Yet another NIN live DVD or "NIN gives away video footage for free"?
