I thought the rest of that list was a little broad for hard rock.  Beatles? White Stripes?

You should have seen the cover they wanted to do. It wasn't a glove, believe me.

the White Stripes are without a shadow of a doubt the best rock n roll band out today.

six classic records within less than a decade, a kick ass live show, incredible songwriting, they can do it all.

IMO Helter Skelter is more of a hard rock song than SCOM

Top 10 hard rock songs...

1. Welcome To The Jungle
2. It's So Easy
3. Nightrain
4. Out Ta Get Me

pattern..?  lol.  Just don't include Anything Goes and, ooooh, maybe Rocket Queen (great song, but definetely one of the 'softer' ones) and we have the top 10 of hard rock.

That said, that's an unusually good list.  It ticks all the best hard rock artists, without question.  Gnr, Led Zep, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles.  Replace that barracuda lot with The Doors, maybe replace Nirvana with Aerosmith, and it's a pretty definitive list of the great bands.

I'm not saying they aren't a good band.  But none of their songs belong on an all time top 10 hard rock songs list IMO

Given that The Stooges are back, the White Stripes have no claim to being anywhere near the best band out right now.

man, you have got to be shitting me!!!!!! are you serious!??? i think this is the single worst thing to happen to music EVER, i have never heard a band so absolutely talentless in every way! a serious case of style overr substance (meaning those who have no style are "in" at he moment)

I'm sure this comes as little surprise, but this list fucking blows.  It's like they took a bunch of heavy or hard bands, and picked their biggest hit.  If you think Paranoid is Sabbath's best song (or best album, for that matter), then you haven't listened to Sabbath, beyond what's on the radio.  Why do they make such silly lists?  I want this list: the 100 greatest songs that weren't released as a radio or video single.  THAT would be a worthwhile list, because at least people would learn about some songs they haven't heard, and it might encourage them to explore something new (to them).

Go listen to a song called Red Rain. Their music transends genres, they can write blues, folk, punk, country you name it, they have done it. The simplicity in their music is what makes them so incredible, it is songwriting in its purest form, there is just a guitar or piano, drums and vocals, no more no less. But confining themselves to a four track recorder their true abilities come out, each record is done within 2-3weeks and there is never any bullshit.

Two people on stage, no horns section, no backup singers, no three guitarists.

Also, the worst thing to happen to music? Jack White is the best thing to happen to music for awhile. His love of classic music has given me the ability to go back and really dig deep in America's lost treasures. Such as blues men Son House, Charlie Patton, Blind Willie McTell and great country singers like Hank Williams.

In todays pro-tools, ameican idol, iTunes driven market, knowing that there is a guy out there who every night plugs in his $45 dollar guitar into a Sears Amp brings comfort to my soul.

OK...just for the sake of being open-minded, I listened to an entire White Stripes album.  Now, I'm not going to say that this band is the worst thing to happen to music.  I think the songs are generally good, but nothing spectacular.  And it's nice that, in the day of ultra-polished albums, and image over musicianship, that someone wants to put out stripped down rock.  But "songwriting in its purest form" isn't of much merit if it sounds like those who wrote the songs could use a few lessons.  It's that type of overly-simplistic, occasionally catchy rock that appeals to you on the first listen, but less with each subsequent spin.  I kind of like it, but I know myself well enough to know that, after a few more listens, I'd be tired of it.  Would I take it over the boy bands, genero-pop, and all the other crap?  Yeah, sure.  But a "Top 10 Hard Rock Songs of All Time" band?  Nope.
