Ancient Egypt

I just saw an exhibition of anicent Egyptian treasures from the Louvre! I saw the actual ruling staff held by one of the King Ramses! The artifacts just screamed 'ancient' although the gold jewellry looked so modern!
My students and I had the spooky feeling that we were being 'watched' by several of the stautes on display..........

If I had the time to read the 'book of the dead' displayed along a wall I could tell you.
No pics allowed - security was everywhere.

the institute of the arab world has a restaurant and caf? up on top, on the roof. Not only is the view absolutely wonderful but they have marvellous cakes and mint tea.
Yes ?
And i have an interest in ancient egypt, i particularly like the fact that in some periods, women could abort, divorce, possess land, be bosses of their own companies, smoke and rule the country.

i'm as obsessed as you are .... but with jackie O
ancient egypt rooms in museum are amazing in atmosphere.
on friday night, le louvre is open till 9pm, and usually empty, at dark, the egyptian rooms are eerie.
i read an article about a musuem they're building in Cairo that is gonna be huge and render the most unique pieces.

What really puzzled me is how far back we have gone nowadays, mentally, especially when it concerns women.
Archeologists know women aborted in egypt, so that means abortion was probably always there, as women found ways to get rid of unwanted pregnancies.
Yet, it is today more than ever that we go back to having our bodies belonging to the state ?
This is not democratic, it is not freedom.
Another thing that did strike me was that cocaine was found in egyptian tombs, when no coca plants could be foud anywhere near europe or africa back then. The only way it could have been in egypt would mean egyptians did travel to south america and when you see the similarities between aztec/maya architectures and the egyptian, one of them was who inspired the other and maybe even distant relatives.
So did the Mayas/Aztecs travel to Egypt or did Egyptians travel to South America ?

Zahi Hawass has made sure of that, all pieces are coming back into egypt and he makes sure none leave
He is ferocious, a bit of my hero actually.
Not always the best, especially when it comes to making decisions about carbon dating etc etc...i kind of disagree with him, but he is admirable.

I would be very skeptical unless something has been published in a peer review journal

Well, peer medical reviews have published about " parental alienation" when they never researched wether the guy that talked about it was serious or not.
Turns out he is a convincted pedophile who had natural reasons to want his own child back and who invented a medical reason to brand within courts of justice.
The actual medical state of parental alienation was never proven medically, and yet, it was published everywhere.
What i'm getting at is that peer reviews are nothing but another magazine, in which you will find utter truths and utter bollocks.
And seeing the discovery channel are pretty serious, i wouldn't disclose it myself.
