That NY-Dallas game was the first time that I've seen a team (in this case, Dallas) employ the strategy of long, clock-killing drives designed to wear down a defense and have it backfire and wear down their own offensive linemen. Why doesn't that happen more often? Aren't defensive linemen and linebackers generally more athletic and in better shape than those 300+ pound offensive linemen?
My guess would be that it doesn't happen more often because the offense knows what to expect. If it's a run to the left, the guys on the right can let up a bit. And there's something to say for the morale boost that comes with moving the ball on the other team's defense.
So...I dunno! Maybe Eli sent 'em hookers the night before.

If so, genius move - and a great NY Giant tradition! He really is turning a corner... Tony Romo, take note.

The Chargers don't stand a chance in hell next week.
I agree but would love to see them not make it to the superbowl.
You are evil.
Nah i just hate that arrogant showboating of a team known as the patriots
What has the team done thats arrogant (other than win 17 out of 17 games thus far)? I love listening to people whine because someone wins for too long...
Oh i don't know cheating? Intentionally running up the score just to rub their opponents face in it comes to mind.
OK they "cheated" for 2 quarters this year... what about the other 66 this season?
Also, quit the running up the score shit. This is a professional league, the other team's paid real good money to stop them.

Rodney Harrison is the dirtiest player in the NFL
He is always hitting people late
He drives me nuts... for every good play he makes he gets a 15 yard penalty.
Him and Seau both drive me nuts... Seau built a career on pile jumping. 1/3 of his tackles are after the fact.

Guys, help me out here. On Steele's point...where was Julius Jones? I was in and out for the whole game and missed some drives here and there, but what happened to the Cowboys strategy of wearing down the other team with a fresh Marion Barber in the 2nd half? Run J.J. 60-40 or 50-50 with Barber, and then by the 2nd half he's a killer. I think Marion blew his load in the 1st half.
(Romo must have blown his load down in Cabo) That wide-open T.O. play that would have put them up 7 was huge.
One more thing...what's the take-home message to star receivers whose teams think they can rest for weeks on end, and then expect them to show up on Playoff day and perform well?
Don't Do It!!!
Marvin and Terry, I'm lookin' at both of you!
btw, has Dungy taken any heat for not kicking the field goal on that 4th down before the last drive? just curious.

^funny stuff Tongue. I was thinkin' about Terry Glenn too. He's probably fast as hell. I can see him sprinting out to the middle of his yard ready to cut fast toward the mailbox....but of course he slips and falls before he gets there.
Marcus Pollard of the Seahawks stands on his front porch every morning, but has yet to catch any newspapers thrown his way.

The D played abnormally poorly, so I give him a pass there.
Considering the playoffs two years ago, when the Steelers made them look rusty, I've long questioned whether, for some teams at least, getting that first round bye is such a good thing.
My question of Dungy would be how the Harrison situation was handled. Was he injured to the extent that he couldn't be brought back until now? If so, plugging him in just disrupts the chemistry of the offense. If he could have played, I think he should have the last week or two of the season, if only for a half or a quarter...anything to knock the rust off.
I don't know...it seems that wasn't handled well. But he won't get too much flack out of Indy. Before he came to town, the team won only two division titles (in Indy, that is), and have won five since. And the way he's turned that defense around with players that other teams wouldn't even draft is impressive.

The Seahawks want the ball, and they're gonna score!
Freedom, I wouldn't give Tony flack either. He turned the franchise around, and has kept the team at the top for years.
It wasn't really his fault. Clark should have caught that ball. Would that have saved Indy? Probably not, but it all came down to execution, and the Colts did not execute.

This was Romo's first full season, I wouldn't start saying he's kept them on top for years... He could be a flash in the pan like Delhome or Kurt Warner, not exactly future HOF'ers

I'm pretty sure Eddie was referring to Tony Dungy, not Tony Romo.

I can't wait for that Giants-Packers game!!!!!!! It will be around 0 degrees at kickoff with a windchill around -14.
Both games will be fun to watch, but there is something special about games in harsh elements. The windchill says it all.
Packers by 14.

From Yahoo Sports, a rumor from a Philly publication:
Stallworth could consider a return to Philadelphia
Sunday, Jan 20, 2008 9:41 am EST
Donte Stallworth
Getty Images
The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that Dont? Stallworth could come back to the Philadelphia Eagles after he wins a Super Bowl ring with New England.
Stallworth is due a monstrous bonus in February, one the Patriots likely won't pay because they will have to spend money to keep Randy Moss.
Stallworth qualifies as a playmaker and probably one who would be acceptable to the
Eagles' high-maintenance quarterback, Donovan McNabb.
Source: Philadelphia Inquirer
Ya gotta love a town that labels its quarterback as "high maintenance." Perception is everything. If this doesn't demonstrate the media's ridiculous treatment of Donovan in Philly, I don't know what does. He's "high-maintenance" because he wants more pieces to put together a championship team?
Stallworth's not a number 1 receiver I'd be happy with if I were an Eagles fan...but he'd be a solid #2 if he stayed healthy.

You got that right fellow May 12, '06 show-goer!!!!!!!!!! Go Pats, Go Pack! I've been out walking the dog a couple times today...I can't imagine playing football in this freakin weather! Actualy colder than this! Does Lambeau have a way to warm the ground or will it really be like Chris Berman always used to say, "the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field?"
I hope it's all-natural.

i'm about 3 hours in to a 12-hour day of football. i'm loving it. i'll predict NO upsets today. although i don't feel totally confident about either game. the extreme weather could effect any team.
i'm really hoping for a pats-GB SB. that would probably be the most anticipated and most watched of all time.
A4Prez - even most of mcnabb's supporters admit he's high maintenance. every year there's something distracting with him. he made racist comments, he fired his PR guy and hired his own from outside the team, he directed criticism away from himself and onto his teammates, and he PUBLICLY ripped his teammates/coaches/management by saying they need playmakers.
and that was all just in the last 8 months.

Here are my picks
I took SD with 14pts, that is a ridiculous spread. NE wins 27-17 Wind will slow down NE's offense. remember the Jets game?
Giants vs Packers
Giants are a head scratcher, u look at their roster and there is no way they should play NE that close or beat Dallas, but they did. they are very hot right now and they have a great running game and pass rush to stay in the game.
Giants win 28-24
The reason the Giants win is, we can't get lucky enough to see potentially one of the best SB's ever in NE vs GB
So I think the Giants play the spoiler.
Favre is due to return to the Favre of old and fuck up the game.
