Metalsucks note regarding Libertad's first single

Metalsucks.net :
"This, the first single from supergroup Velvet Revolver?s sophmore album Libertad, has been floating around for awhile now as a live bootleg and was made avail for streaming earlier this week- but now you can download the full track.
Vince and I have a hard time believing that this is the song that was chosen as the first single - surely there must be something on the album better than this fairly generic track, which pales in comparison to some of those recent Axl Rose/ Chinese Democracy leaks - but, still? Slash solos almost never disappoint."

They are 100% correct. Sure it has a cool Slash solo, but the song is rather generic and boring and the vocals suck balls.

it's a real shame they made a start forward rock. they should have jumped onto the EMO bandwagon.

SBQM may not be mold-breaking, but I think it's a cool song. I like the guitar fills during the verse, adds some color and the song has a good hook. The end and the solo seal the deal for me.

Anyone else think the riff is really close to vertigo by U2?
And the lyrics are terrible......case in point "she used to keep her motor clean"
That has been in at least 10 songs straight off the top of my head, most from the 80s

LOL so true about the lyrics, they are very poor 'She ran away to Texas/To keep away the excess' oh dear
. Being a huge STP/Weiland fan I was very dissapointed with this first single, the bridge is catchier than the chorus which is waaay to basic. I hope the rest of the album can reddem itself, however just looking at some of the song titles makes me worry this could be generic cock rock (Just 16, Get Out The Door, She Mine, Let It Roll).

I kinda agree with the review. Other than the solo, the song really doesn't do anything for me. I hate the chorus and the lyrics. Yech.

I still love it and think it rocks.
Sure it isnt gonna change the musical landscape but it does its job. It rocks hard, will sound great on the radio and will set up nicely for the 2nd single which is the one that moves albums.

I like the song. The backing vocals are the only weak part/complaint that I have with the entire track.
They could have left that out so it would have sounded more raw.

Agreed.
2 songs off 2 records from 2 bands in my lifetime got/gets that kind of acclaim and respect, I don't think anyone expects that from fellas this far along in their career.

It rocks hard.
That it does, and in the current pussified state of music in general that should count for something.

Slash sounds quite energized with his playing. Duff and Matt sound very tight. I just don't think that Weiland meets the level that Slash and the band are at in this song.
A solid rock song, musically. Great energy by the band, especially Slash.

I couldn't agree more with that review. The song is OK, and it gets a LITTLE better each time I hear it, but I'd be dissappointed if there aren't 4 or 5 better songs on the album.
