De Niro and Pacino pair up again

BBC

Movie legends Al Pacino and Robert De Niro are to share the big screen for only the second time in their careers, according to film trade paper Variety.

The stars have signed up to play police investigators hunting a serial killer in thriller Righteous Kill.

Producer Randall Emmett said the movie was set in motion by the two actors. "They're friends, and this really all got started from that," he said.

Unlike their last film, 1995's Heat, the duo will act together throughout.

In Heat, they only had two scenes in common - while in 1974's The Godfather Part II, their characters never met on screen.

"This is an event in world history," said co-producer Avi Lerner in Cannes.

"They were in two scenes in Heat. In this movie, they are in the whole thing together."

Righteous Kill, which has a reported budget of $60m, is being written by Russell Gewirtz - who scripted last year's hit heist movie Inside Man.

Casting is under way for other roles in the project.

Hoo-rah!

Maybe they can be great again, Heat was a classic.

It'll be good to see De Niro doing something serious again and hopefully with a good script to.? His comedy offerings i haven't really enjoyed and more "Serious" stuff like Godsend have been, well, crap.

For me his last great period was the mid-late 90s with offerings like Ronin, Jackie Brown, Wag the Dog, Cop Land, The Fan, Heat & Casino.? Saying that it's been a while since i've seen a good Pacino one...

The last half of this article has a pretty funny take on who was the better actor:

This thread made want to watch Heat again. I do think that they are in the same scene, not only at the dinner but even before that, when Vince stops Neil in the car.

This is from imbd:

Were Pacino and Deniro in the same scene?

Yes. Many viewers claim that Robert De Niro and Al Pacino never (or hardly ever) actually share screen time during the film, despite the hype surrounding the films release as showcasing their first screen appearance. In most Pan and Scan versions of the film, and TV broadcasts, it does appear that during the "diner scene" the two never actually share the screen, but viewing the film in correct letterbox format, as the director intended, clearly shows the two actors sitting at the table, though only in wide shots.

These two photos prove that Pacino and De Niro were in the same scene.

that still photo is a production photo, not a screen capture from the actual movie in widescreen. The other photo is also a production photo. Im not saying they werent on set together filming, just the way that it was edited makes it look like they were never there at the same time.  Even Cinemax pointed this out when they first aired Heat.  They challenged anyone to show a frame of the movie where both actors can clearly be seen.  You cant.
