I thought of this thread the other day when an old Loverboy song came on the radio and back in the day I used to have Mike Reno posters on my bedroom walls. I used to love "Loverboy", but I am sort of embarassed to admit it now because they were a manufactured band.

I also love old Billy Joel. I think Glass Houses was my first album. It's still rockin roll to me was my favorite song.

Thought I'd ask you cats to see if you'll elaborate on some of the bands you like that others might not necessarily think are cool or hip or even warrant liking. Examples - Boy George, Go-gos, the Bangles, Britney Spears, etc....

Oh and Pat Benatar is another rocker I loved - Hell is for Children is a killer song but it seems like she only put out a couple albums and then disappeared. She had a killer voice. I still rock when I hear her on the radio.

And I like Michael Jackson's music - some of it - old stuff - but I'll never admit to anyone except this board and most of you don't know me.

The first album I ever got was "The Sign" by Ace of Base.

Judge me, I dare you.

Ok Mal, I can't even say anything cause I bought that CD too. I just haven't really leaked all my bad bands yet.

I've gotten rid of almost all of my embarrassing albums through the lala.com used cd exchange, so incriminating evidence is lacking.   hihi

However, since I'm feeling honest:

As a youth, I was, admittedly, typically stupid and into whatever MTV put on.  Most of those interests faded over time.  The only one that REALLY stuck was GNR.

As for the current day, I like Poison.  Yeah, I know they're cheesy false-glam pop, but they put on a pretty good show EVERY summer for about $15-20 (and it's worth catching, ESPECIALLY if they tour w/ Cinderella).

I also like 90s gangsta rap (early Snoop, Dre, NWA), which I'm sure some think is somehow sacrilegious and which is definitely odd for a suburban white kid who grew up in Indiana.

I myself never miss the annual Poison headlined "Hairball". Great music, but even better people watching.

I am also a huge late 80's early 90's rap fan... I still listen to alot of NWA, but back then I would listen to anything. At the time GnR was about the only Rock I was into... I got so fed up with hair metal (Sans Poison), NWA was the only thing that had any substance to it.

Dude, I went to college in Indiana and I swear to god no one listened to early rap. I brought my house music tapes from chi-town and everyone was like, what the hell is that? But I was in college in Muncie which is further south than the others. I don't know if that had something to do with it or not.

Haha, I like Posion too and they work their butts off touring every year and put on a pretty damn good show.  Last year they had buy one get one free tix for the NJ show for lawn seats so it was a good time and inexpensive!

I know what you mean.  Reminds me of the dude in Office Space blasting the gangsta rap on his car radio and then reaching over to lock the door when a black guy innocently walks past.

The music, though, is nothing to be embarassed about.  It had a genuine intensity to it that was lacking in most other music at the time.  Tonight I have to look through my old mix tapes so I can listen to Hundred Miles And Runnin.

My wife (girlfriend at the time) bought me AC/DC's Stiff Upper Lip for my birthday, years ago.  Her friend was with her, and found it quite embarrassing.   no
