What is a good distortion pedal to get the guns sound? I currently have a boss metal zone and cant really get the guns sound. IF anybody out there hs a metal zone what are your settings for the guns sound? Thanks!

Basically you need a tube amp and you need to be loud.
You need to get those tubes working and the only way to do that is to turn up the volume.
Or get a Marshall Power Brake to lower the volume.
Are you gonna play with a band or just practice?

I was in a band for awhile but quit last august. I was so burned out from playing that i havent played in a few months & i would like to get my chops back by playing some guns. Also Izzy is my favorite guitarist so i am not necasarilly just looking for slash's tone but the guns sound in general.

My setup:
Fender Blues Deville 4x10
Gibson SG Standard
Gibson Les Paul Jr. Tv Yellow with p90's (yeah i am a johnny thunders fan)
Lots of misc. pedals

I was looking on ebay & saw a boss od 20. It seems to have most of the distortion tones i am looking for. Based on the original reply it sounds like I need a overdrive pedal not a metal pedal. If anyone has used this pedal let me know or are familiar with boss overdrive let me know what you think.

Looks like Izzy is playing through a Fender amp in this clip.

That orange Marshall was most likely not his, that Fender is though and I'm pretty sure it's the same as used on the LAD album which is also used on the new Miami album Smiley I managed to pull some info from JT Longoria (bass + engineer on LAD an Miami) and he said some details about equipment, mics used and the mixing etc.

There's a 2006 Izzy pic from the airport when he was playing with the new GN'R where he signs some guitars, he's wearing a blue jacket on it and behind him is a guitar case and small 15W / 20W amp, probably Marshall. He's said in 2001 that whenever he travels he takes with him a hollowbody guitar and that amp, it's great in hotels he said and he can make outline's for songs that way.

Anyways, for Izzy equipment in GN'R and solo go here http://www.chopaway.com/equipment.htm or here http://www.chopaway.com/pun/viewtopic.php?id=11

Can you not turn the amount of gain/distortion down on your metal zone and just increase the vol on your amp? Also reduce the bass, add some mid and quite a bit of treble - would be handy to get an eq pedal.

Bumblefoot plays Line 6.
Very easy to controll and get whatever sound you want.
