While I agree with Christos, that something that was leaked without an artist's approval should be removed in general, I believe that it's Axl and the management's responsibility to ensure that such leaks don't happen in the first place. GN'R is the leakiest ship there is... You have a new leak every two weeks.

You can't allow a leak to go out on the Internet and then rush about trying to censor sites. IT DOESN'T WORK. This has been proved umpteen times by people trying to censor cracks and software workarounds. No matter what you do, if people want it enough, it will be hosted somewhere. Recently proven by the HD-DVD, Diggs affair.

The amount of energy Axl spends trying to remove leaks, if diverted to finding out who is responsible would be more productive. He knows which demo leaked and which session it came from, not to mention who had access to those demos.

Of course, all this assumes it wasn't intentional in the first place.

It's not so much what harm but harm to what.  And that what, is GNR's reputation.  I'm sure you've heard the saying that you don't get a second chance to make a good first impression, well, what kind of first impression are non-GNR fans going to get about CD when they hear the leaks (which are bound to spread like wildfire)?  The majority of them won't stop to consider, or care, whether or not they're the finished product, they'll be only to pleased to spread the word about the sub-standard efforts of Axl and the boys - and then it'll be the true fans who suffer when negative attitudes in the press and by word-of-mouth affect album sales and touring prospects.

Maybe it was an angry Universal shareholder(shareholders own the company) who was tired of never seeing a return on his investment.

If Axl was sitting in his basement alone making music with all his own money you would have more of a point. He is like the writer that was contracted to do a story and missed the deadline, at some point the people paying him take matters into their own hands. Maybe that is a case of what happened here.

If I were an artist I wouldn?t like MY work to be stolen and released without my consent. And the fact that we all want to hear new music from our favourite band doesn?t justify the leaks IMO.
