I know there are coutless threads about Tommy's injury and the cancellations and why GN'R can replace Brain but not Tommy...yadda, yadda, yadda....
But here's a thought (albeit, speculation, at best). Perhaps the reason why GN'R decided NOT to have a temporary replacement for Tommy was because they are planning on playing brand new material during the next few legs. Many of you have brought up the point that Pittman could have easily filled in for Tommy for a few shows. That seems to be a reasonable 'fix'...IF, that is, they plan on playing the same old setlist. Althought most of us like the added effects Pittman contributes to the 'old songs', they certainly can be played without them if Pittman was on bass instead.
However, IF the band is planning to play brand new material that relied heavily on Pittman manning the synth, he would not have been able to play bass...not to mention the fact that it would be extremely unfair to have Tommy work so hard on this material for countless years only to have the premier of new material spoiled by a stupid injury.
I know...it's a very desperate and passing thought...but anyone else think it could possibly hold water?
GUNS N' ROSES. without the Work of PITMAN? Man? of which these speaking.

I'm not suggesting the entire album...but maybe the first single...something new that we haven't heard. Like I said, it would be a real shame if Tommy missed out on that opportunity after all these years.
I'm just saying that if you assume the average album is 12-14 songs, we have most likely already heard 6 that will make the final cut (those being the ones played live at most every show plus TWAT). If you throw in another new song or 2 on the tour, then we are looking at having heard 8 out of 12 or 14 songs off the album. There will be very little suspense left for the album if it is ever released, because having heard 2/3's of it live is like opening 2/3 of your christmas presents before christmas and rewrapping them to reopen them again that morning. It just takes a little of the fun out of the experience. It is bad enough we have heard as much as we have.
Why is it so bad that we have heard so much of CD.....Why does everything have to be such a fucking suprise. Guns played almost all of UYI on tour 5 months before it came out.
Yes, but youtube did not exist back then.
I can see why they won't replace Tommy Stinson. Besides Axl, he's the most recognizable member, with the largest fan base. Plus, in order for this to work, band members cannot be seen as replacable. I can't see how that would not be obvious to anyone.

bbf emailed someone and said there would be no more new material until after the album is released.

Its definatly possible that they could play "new" material at the shows but i wouldn't count on it. At least not until the album is dropped.
i'm gonna agree with ya on this one, i'm still thinking that there won't be any more new stuff played untill the album is droped but i wouldn't count it out

Youtube did not exist but bootlegs did. And they toured almost the entire US in 1991 in huge stadiums and arenas. If you were a big guns fan then you went to the shows. It wasn't all that hard because of the huge capacity. The UYI were huge hits and no one was complaining that the record was ruined because almost all of it was played live.

It's a very good point. First thing I thought of was the fact that Bumblefoot learned the GNR set (including all the leaks) in supposedly 1-2 weeks...

I just don?t get one thing... ok Tommy got injured... and why didn?t they find another bassist to replace him for those shows?? I mean... that wouldn?t be something new in GnR history...
