Anyone knows the "ca number" of how many records GnR has sold?
How much have appetite sold worldwide alone?

Do you think theyr discografi will have sold over 100 millions a couple of years after Chinese Democracy?

That is a very high number.. for a band that with 7 album releases.. (with CD and GH)

Yes, I believe that's possible. I think I've read somewhere that GN'R have sold close to 80 million albums or so. Assuming there will be more GHs and compilations coming along, they should make that target easily.

AFD: 40+
UYI: 35+ (combined)
Lies: 10
GH: 7+
Live Era: 2+
Spaghetti: 7+

Do you have a source for that? I don't think UYIs have sold 35 mil. It's more close to 18 mil combined.

The UYI albums have been certified to have sold 7 million each in the USA. The last certification was done in 1997.

I wouldn't be surprised if they've sold more than 18 million in the USA alone.....

RIAAs numbers:

AFD: 15
UYI: 14
Lies: 5
GH: 4
Live Era: 1.5
Spaghetti: 3

Multiply that with a little over 2 and you get the worldwide sales, then adjust a little since the list hasn't been updated for 10 years.

I agree....I think some people would be surprised just how well the Illusions sold. ?I know I was a few years ago when I looked at the numbers. I use the illusion numbers along with the world tour when talking about when GNR was at their "peak"....which I think was the 91-93 period....I know some will think the 87-89 period....

fun discussion to have....since both periods GNR was the biggest band in the world.

Nobody ever gets this right-in the US, according to RIAA (I just looked!), GNR has shipped/approx sold 38.5 million records.
afd-15, uyi1-7, uyi2-7, lies-5, spag-1, GH-3, Live-500,000 ?FACT FACT FACT!

that is a fairly accurate number for actual albums sold in the US....WORLWIDE IS VERY HARD TO DETERMINE- probably anywhere from 80-90 million as of now.

That list can't be entirely trusted since it's updated so rarely. I've read articles where all the albums have larger sales. Even though GN'R was on the decline in 93 they were still big enough to shift more than 1 million copies of a new album.

Either way it lands at about 100 million records worldwide, and that's pretty good for just 3 'real' albums.

You have read articles but you have no recording industry source ok That list is accurate as it is going to get until Geffen asks for a new certification of AFD and GH. I highly doubt the others will change.

They have sold more in the rest of the world...roughly 38-40 million US actual sales and anywhere from 40-60 million worlwide. It is not an exact science but Geffen should have an idea of what they have shipped worldwide.

Appetite was/is a phenomenon. Everybody "had" to buy it. It has made the numbers over the years.

I don't believe there's a reason...

« Reply #18 on: April 18, 2007, 01:18:58 PM »

I heard somewhere that the number is around 92 millions around the world. I believe it was pretty accurate like 3 or 4 years ago (when the numbers werent fully updated). South America, Japan, Europe... they sold a lot there for sure.
thats pretty good, a rock band sold something close to 100 millions of albums with '3' real albums - AFD, UYI and Lies. thats really awesome.
just think on that... bon jovi is a pop/pop rock group and they sold around 100 millions. they've got around 13 records out if i'm not wrong (source: bon jovi community, lol).

every 'new' fan who bought UYI also bought AFD afterwards i guess. 7 million is approx. 1/2 of 15 million.
okay just my guess.
