I love GNR anywhere but personally I think next time they come to Michigan instead of playing at The Palace they should do a mid Summer outside concert at Pine Knob, or play at The Royal Oak music theatre like VR is doing May 12th to me at least I think it would be much more intense and the crowd atmosphere would be all in unison together more so than half empty large arenas in America. What are your thoughts? I have noticed from reviwing concerts that Guns just sound awsome outdoors and that is supposedly harder to do for sound, but IMO GNR do their best outdoors, agree?

Totally agree. Look at any outdoor clip from 2006 (Download, Rock Am Ring...) and the band really tears it up.

this question seems to fit this topic but would the sound guy have an easier time with a bigger stage with some many musicians than a smaller stage?

i never had the chance to watch guns n roses at an indoor venue. i think the sound is always under the influence off the wind when i attend an outdoor gig. i learned to post myself around the PA tower for the best sound quality.

Guns N' Roses rock outdoors, but for me, there just ain't nothing like a small, intimate show, or an arena show when its Axl Rose up on that stage ok

Last year I saw them at both Download (outdoor) and Glasgow SECC (indoor). After the initial sound problems at Download they sounded fucking awsome but about half an hour into the set it really was all going to shit. In glasgow they were absolutely immense, sound was fantastic and Axl sounded the best I had heard him in any of the shows last year. The gig was also a sell out which obviously improves the atmosphere and it was a Scottish crowd (far and away the best in the world) but in my humble opinion they were better inside than out.

How many fit in the Hammerstein?  2,500?  For me, that was the most incredible GnR show ever, especially compared the larger stadium shows I've seen.   There's nothing like seeing your heroes up close and personal, even if the sound might be less than ideal in spots...

Saw them outdoor (Dublin, 30,00 ppl) and indoor (Glasgow, 10,000 ppl or so). Don't think the size of the place made a difference to the show for me. I mean 75% of the set is tried and tested stadium material (be it by the 'old' line-up) But the new band can tear these tunes up and Axl sounds just as magnificent these days.

The big difference was the setting. Dublin was in day and Glasgow being inside could be dark. Hence Glasgow had a better show, which was a big advantage for me. Can see why Axl likes coming on stage later! WTTJ is so much more immense in the dark before the major riff kicks in. Hope others understand what I mean!

Well, Ive seen them twice at the SF Warfield, very small and intimate club *fist night was standing, next night seats. btw Im seeing VR their standing Smiley * but then that saturday saw them at Inland Invasion which was huge. Few months later saw them at Oakland Arena. So, in comparison, Id say it was *from Best to Worst, though their was no no "worst" you know what I mean lol* 1. Warfield stanidng, very close. 2. Inland Invasion, HUGE CROWD Smiley, 3. Oakland, fun seeing them in an arena. 4. Warfield Seats, I wanted to move Sad beer

It would be interesting to hear what Axl/the band thinks or what they prefer-I remember reading Eddie Van Halen saying he prefers playing the outdoor sheds

GN'R can play anywhere.

That's the fucking beauty of it all.

In front of maybe 100 people in a night club, in a theater in front of 5000 or in a park in front of 80000. It doesn't matter. You get the same great show.

GNR sounded great when I saw them in 2006.  I liked the Hammerstein show the best because there was only 2000 people there.
