I was at the Dublin gig in June - the only time you've played in sunlight with GnR, i'd say.

Do the first half of estranged up to say, the 3 and a half minute-mark (or more if you have the time!)- would sound awesome with just guitar. Listening to it now - beautiful guitar playing!

Or maybe Double Talkin' Jive - i'd love to hear you're take on the spanish-style electric solo at the end.

Been to five GNR shows but just one with BBF so far - Edmonton. I say ditch Don't Cry for the sake of variety or mix it in half the time. I'd rather hear the main riff and solo from Estranged. The intro to Get in the Ring would sound cool too. You don't have to play the same solo at every single gig. Mix it up a little and keep people guessing.

II.) Definatly keep it

III.) I would crap my pants if you did "Estranged"

BBF,

I went your first show with GNR in NYC last year then I saw you again here in Detroit last November. I enjoyed Don't Cry at the Detroit show and I liked your regular jam at Hammerstein as well.

If I had to vote on a song to change your solo to, I'd say the Lies version of "You're Crazy".

P.S. I saw Nuno Bettencourt play Madagascar MUCH better then you on You Tube.   hihi

Been playin' an instrumental guitar version of "Don't Cry" as part of my solo spot in GnR shows for almost a year, around 70 shows, 23 countries.  Will probably change it in the future, unless there's a big demand by audiences to keep playin' it.

How about dropping all the old music and playing only the new sounds from Chinese Democracy.
Chinese Democracy is after all the music that the current line up created and stands for  Wink

I went to Halifax in November and it was incredible.

I keep Dont Cry for sure. Its a good song for instrumental because most of the fans recognize it, and the lyrics are pretty easy (even if its just people saying "dont you cry tonight" over and over again, which is what I've noticed hahaha).

i think civil war would be a good one. Most people here really want to hear that played live, but thats probably not going to happen. the opening would be cool to include in your solo.

P.S. thanks for being accessible to the fans. I know for a fact its kept some fans hopes alive being able to hear from a band member. Otherwise we would be pretty much in the dark minus del james.

All the best.

edit: i change my vote after reading thru the board. yesterdays, for the love of crap! yesterdays!

Ottawa gig

Estranged is my fav GNR song and the song that got me into GNR so an instrumental version of that would be cool. BUt it is such a long and complex song and the piano is so integral to that song I dont think a guitar only instrumental can do it justice.

Maybe you can hook up with Pittman and do a shortened version. That would be cool.

Ive seen GNR once.

I loved when you played Dont Cry, keep it, maybe axl could sing with you.

And Estranged is an awesome song, but I guess it would be strange maybe to play it solo.

1. May 15th Hammerstein, November 10th MSG

2. keep it, but shorten it

3. yesterdays instrumental, but if it's possible talk the entire band into playing "civil war" or "perfect crime" (just as long as no one in the crowd is from st. louis) Grin

1 - May 12, 14 in NYC; Sep 20,21 in SF, CA

2 - it's great, but may be time to retire it if you have something better

3 - Coma. I think the vocal line is melodic enough for guitar, and the riff is huge and iconic. I love estranged and civil war, like everyone else, but I think Coma would make a better guitar/singalong thing.

1) ? Cleveland in the early 90's w/ Skid Row opening, Pittsburgh w/ Metallica & Faith No More, Hammerstein in NYC on 5-12-06 (loved it!)
2) ? Keep it. ?It's such a powerful, well-known GnR song that many fans, myself included, have a strong emotional attachment to.
3) ? Civil War & Yesterdays could also be rotated in or combined into a medley of sorts. ?Civil War is instantly recognizable, while Yesterdays really ?
 ? ? ?lends itself to a fan sing-along.
