Atheists require just as much faith and lack of evidence as someone who follows a major religion. At least with the major religions, you have some fact that can be loosely tied to their diety - much like the formula of most conspiracy theorists. Atheists have zilch, nada. Remember, being agnostic and an atheist aren't the same thing. I think most educated people have to accept some sort of supreme power or force as the origin of the universe - whether you call that God or something else is a different matter. Atheist don't acknowledge anything.

My favorite time of year is in the spring time, when the pro-gay, anti-gawd, live abortion parade float makes its way through downtown Tampa. It's a sight to behold for sure.

Oh please, what nonsense. It doesn't take as much "faith and lack of evidence" to not believe in invisible pink unicorns on Mars as it does, the only difference is that religious people have elevated their religion to a higher level of importance, doesn't mean the rest of us have. There are plenty of scientific studies showing that percentage of people with religious belief is inversely proportional to their educational level.

So...are you saying that all religious people are stupid, or that educated people are too full of themselves?
Anyway, great vid. I'm gonna go throw a radio into a shit-filled toilet, to see if I can create Mr. Hanky.

To claim that there is nothing out there, no supreme power with just as much certainty as those of major religions requires faith. ?No one can prove one way or the other. ?To take a stand on either side requires faith. ?People like yourself have just as much faith as Christians, but somehow their faith is not equal to yours and makes them less intelligent. ?If you're going to place all your eggs in one basket, wouldn't those claiming the existance of God be the intelligent ones? ?At least Pascal thought so and I tend to agree.

I always thought Pascal's Wager to be a bit silly. As if, if there is an omniscient God, that it doesn't KNOW you're hedging your bets, and cannot tell the difference between true belief and faith and the sort of semi-faith based on following a religion "just in case."

I disagree. ?I do not have 'faith' that there is no supreme being out there, I simply have not been shown that there is/are supreme being(s) out there. ?I prefer NOT to entrust my faith in something that cannot be proven to me without evidence. ?(and... no life in a jar of peanut butter is not enough evidence for me, I'm sorry.) ? So this does not demonstrate *faith* but a lack of faith. ?
Believing/having faith does not necessarily deem you less intelligent.
However, believing the theory of evolution can be disproved because there is no new life in a jar of peanut butter... does deem you less intelligent.

Pascal's Wager is ridiculous. It doesnt factor in the idea that simply believing is not enough, you've got to get the right religion. Which is why its not worth devoting yourself to God, based on Pascal's Wager anyway.
Whats the point in praising Jesus only to find one pissed off Allah on the other side of the those pearly gates? If there was only one faith, you'd sort of have a point, but there are millions so your odds of making the right choice are astronomical.

I love message boards. I'm about to compliment the posts of a poster named "2nafish."
I love the brown monster that's your avatar. Great sh!t.
Arguing about the existence of God is a silly thing. It can't be proven. I find no harm in people believing in God/Gods. Just don't fucking tell other people you are right and they are wrong. That's where you've fucked up if you do. You're also a friggin idiot if you try to trump science with religion. If God/Gods exist, he or they created the universe we live in. Evolution is a fact. This does not mean there is no God/Gods. What or who set it in motion? Bam, there's your God/Gods.
Treat all people with love, tolerance, and respect. Yes, that means keep your religion to yourself. Work hard. Be kind. Offer a helping hand more times than not. Make goals and work towards achieving them. How fucking hard is that?
PS Yes, I'm fully aware that there are groups of folks around the world that believe in their various holy books to the letter, and take their books literally as the word of God. So yes, I'm fully aware that 4th grade level science contradicts many religious texts. So yes, in a way I'm not cool with their ignorance. I feel sorry for them, but then again, if that gets them through the day, who am I to say that's a bad thing. The bad thing is when these lunatics attempt to squelch reason (i.e. "Intelligent Design" and "People Living amongst the Dinosaurs" bullshit) and try to brainwash future generations.

Before we (mainly you) conveniently float in and out of definitions and argument shifting, let me define what I mean by atheism:
atheism = literally "without belief" also called Weak atheism
Strong atheism = belief that god/s (usually very specific ones) don't exist.
Did some supernatural being or god "create" he universe? Who knows, who cares, can you even define the word "god" in a meaningful way, probably not. Colour me a weak atheist on this definition.
Does God (of xianity/bible) exist? This is the usual question (in the west at least) regarding atheism. Well every xian seems to claim every other xian has it wrong so there's not much of a basis to even start with. But if we go with the usual "omniscient/omnipotent/omnibenevelont being who had has chosen tribe wreak havoc and destruction for a few thousand years, then sent his son to modify the religion because we sucked so much (even if we weren't born yet), which set up a church which wreaked havoc and destruction for the next 2000 years, and if we didn't believe in him/her/it then we would suffer for eternity" kind of version, then it's so ridiculously illogical and nonsensical and obviously created by man to dominate other men, that it doesn't require any faith to not believe....the pink unicorns are more likely.
Anyway, faith is kind of a stupid word - it has positive connotations, but it really just means ignorance when you get down to it. I don't think many people on either side have 'faith' in the sense of 'choosing to believe'. Many people are socialised or nationalised or culturalised or just brainwashed into their beliefs, and for most of the rest of us the answer presents itself based on the evidence or lack thereof.
Incidentally, no serious theologian has bothered to defend Pascal's wager for a very long time, it's main purpose is in scaring 7 year olds at Sunday school.

I thought I recognized him!!! Seeing as how I was raised Catholic...and seeing as how I went through more tissues than Tammy Fay Baker back when I was a teenager...yep, luckily I evaded the monster back then.
How did I escape you ask? Let's just say that when he knocked my bedroom door down and took a run at me, some well-placed used tissues came in handy. He slipped and fell. When he did, I ran like hell.

This is great, a nice story that brought a smile to my face.
I eat peanut butter every day, and luckily (or not) I have yet to find any life in the jar (at least as far as I know).
Hence, it can only mean that the bible is true and the big bang theory is correct. Wow. Now that is heavy.
