I really love the first half of this song. I love the second half, too, but only as a coda to the first half. Without that context, it's a fairly repetitive (if well played) two or three minutes of wailing. Taken as a whole, the song builds nicely to a sustained climax.

The verse lyrics are haunting and evocative. I don't think anyone disagrees with that. But I especially enjoy the refrain, and I'm not sure why so many dislike it. It's the funkiest departure in any Guns epic. I think it's a nice - no, necessary - counterpoint to the drum & synth loop, similar to the way the guitar & drums crash down upon the synth in "Won't Get Fooled Again." It's a visceral evocation of the anger and frustration one can feel while trapped inside a stagnant relationship (romantic or otherwise), hypocritical society, or life in general - here expressed by the underlying loop - and I think that musical contrast syncs well with lyrical themes of the song.

The refrain really gives the song a kick, and keeps it from being pedestrian and predictable. "Predictable" is one quality the band is not in these new songs. Take out the refrain, or smooth it out, and I feel the song loses an important quality.

axl don't leave the refrain out, make a better one...

nah, i can live with the chorus, but it's really nothing to be too proud of. though, with a cool production to it, it might ad some more modern rock feel, some heavier elements to the song.

nope. There's just the 2006 leak with the long guitar solo and the shorter one. Then there's the '99 demo. Nothing that hasnt been online for a long time now.

one quick question. there have been two versions of TWAT, a shorter and a longer version. which one of those has been played live? haven't heard the two live versions, so I'm just curious.

The more I listen the more I love it! This song tells a story and brings you into the life from then to now in Axl's mind. I got this song on my space profile page. Even as a demo it sounds perfect!

I have the version with the real long solo at the end. They should keep that one and make the album similar. This album has to have that one powerful long solo ending song like Paradise is.

i was thinking the other day that even though i think the middle of the new better demo was tinkered with a bit much. Fincks solo sounds so great and mixed well and then i started thinking of how amazing buckets solo will sound in a properly mixed final version and i almost cryed       peace  hihi

Yeah, that would really put you in the poor house. Oh wait, my bad, it won't directly effect you in any way whatsoever.

How the hell did the entertainment industry succeed in making people give a damn about their sales figures? For the record, albums sales figures and actual album sales are two different things. The industry reports one of them and lives on the other. How the album fares in a few of the largest markets will dictate the success or failure of the album in the charts. On the other hand, the record label gets paid on every unit they ship.
