Love this song. '99 version seems stronger, maybe 'cause it has a better mix. I think the finished version will be epic.

How exactly do we know it was recorded in 1999?

Is there two different demo versions floating about or something?

Good Question. I refer to it as the 1999 version simply because everyone else always has. I think the implication is its prebuckethead cos his parts don't seem to be on it. The other version is presumably newer as its closer to the version we got live. (Shred Solo at end etc).

Anyway...to Sum up theres two demo verison of TWAT that I know of. Any others?

Four demos of TWAT exist.

1? "New" Demo w/ Short Bucket Solo
2 "New" w/ Long Solo (6 minutes 43 seconds total)
3 "New" Instrumental
4 ''99 Demo

Wow, where can I hear all these different versions?
I only have the 6.43min one with Bucket solo. I didn't know there were others in existence.

Four demos of TWAT exist.

1  "New" Demo w/ Short Bucket Solo
2 "New" w/ Long Solo (6 minutes 43 seconds total)
3 "New" Instrumental
4 ''99 Demo

Oh i forgot about instrumental...but i think i'm missing one....

I have:

1. A version with no Bucket that is 6.01
2. A Version without bucket (the "1999" i spoke of) thats 5:01
3. A Instrumental version (thats 6:33)

Is there honestly a 4th version I don't have? I always thought it was wierd that the solo in the instrumental was longer than in the vocal one....damn it all.

BTW its not that i don't beleive you...just with all the messing around in the gay thread I wanted to be sure your not just having fun with me or something  peace ok

Dude you're totally missing out, the 6:43 will blow you away (although if you have the instrumental you've heard some of the cool Bucket stuff). Give me a second I'll ______ you a copy.

There are also alternate versions for IRS.

They are clearly from the same sessions as CITR which, according to interviews with Axl in which he mentions the song, was almost definitely recorded in 1999. This gives us good reason to suspect IRS and TWAT - original, non-Bucket versions - were from the same era. IRS has a reggae edge to it originally and no Bucket solo, it's pretty weak IMO. Vocally it's about the same. TWAT sounds really different in terms of vocals. You can probably listen to samples on NewGNR.com, I'm not sure.

Ok...so for I.R.S. i have

1. 2 versions with lyrics and 1 that's instrumental.

Is that everything? There's only 1 leak of Better (full song) and CITR right?

Wow...can't belive I missed that version of TWAT...and here i was thinking i knew what was afoot in the world!!

Just listened to them both and the '99 version sounds way, way better. It sounds like a finished song, not really a demo.

I fuckin love this song. Fell in love with it. Love the lyrics.
But I won't be a radio hit song. It will be the same as estranged.

Critics and press will say this song ain't worth waiting 13 years.

Fuck the press...

TWAT is my favorite thusfar of the new tunes.
I gotta admit, it took a while to acclimate myself to it, but it grew on me.
The end is very heavy.

Where it ranks with the GNR songs of your? Depends on the video & concert performances & if it is a single, but I think it would fit nicely on  a GNR record!

TWAT is my least favorite of the new tunes....I am not into it that much at all....pretty good tune, but not addictive or anything. It really doesn't do anything for me...... no

Highend88 and marknroses have it right in my eyes.  There Was a Time brought tears to my eyes from the very first listen.  No other song's ever done that for me from the 1st listen.  The choir intro. live played on the '06 tour has made a great song even better in my eyes.   love  love   love  love  love

They better have that sick choir intro in the studio version of this song. That adds to the epic value of the song.

Of course, it's the epic touch + Bucketsolo that makes the song classic  ok
