the long solo is great, i definitely would not change that

I think the solo is great too, and i probably wouldn't change it, but do you think they might add an extra section to the song to make it more epic?

Of all the new songs it does sound the most like something off of the Illusions. The chorus of " yeah there was a time " reminds me of the chorus at the end of November Rain - Very, very cool

Wow, its amazing to think how much different being a New-GN'R fan would have been if it weren't for these leaks. I was lurking on these boards and then joined for about 18 months before these leaks came out...what actually happened during that time?

Anyway, on topic...I do think this is the best New-GN'R song and it could become a big hit, but I think the radio stations would play the shortened solo version.

i think  he says...

"to those non-negotiations,  to simulate a cause,
for the pantomime of evils, that you wave around the laws
that keeps you up there sitting pretty, on a pedestal of men,
and now your sleeping like an angel, never mind to who you gave head

this make smuch more sense, at least to me....check the 99' version if your not sure

I don't think thats right. I'm not saying I know myself, but that sounds a bit harsh in quite a subtle song, so it doesn't really fit.

i am just saying, listen to that part again, especially the 99 version, and the live versions, and if you think I am still wrong...maybe I am

In my view its

"To those non-negotations, to simulate a call
For the pantomime of evils, and your ways around the laws
That keep you up and sitting pretty, on a pedastel of men
And now you're sleeping like an angel
....then something? hihi"

that keeps you up and sitting pretty on a pedestal of fear
and now you're sleeping like an angel near a man who reeked of it

That keep you up and sitting pretty on a pedastel of men
While you're sleeping like an angel near the man who you gave head

I'm 99% certain that's what the lyric is

I don't understand the hate for this song. Everyone says it sucks, is "a mess," etc., even a lot of the people who are into the New GN'R. I'd say it's generally considered the weakest of the leaked tracks (Better seems to be the popular choice for best leak at this point), but I honestly think it blows Better out of the way, and I think it's hard to judge the song in its current form.

As a demo, it's strong already, but I think a studio cut is going to really blow people away. I don't like Finck but he does some amazing work on this track, and Bucket's solo is a beautiful example of melodic genius - it really builds on the vocal pattern of the song, and when Axl cuts in at the end with those screeching, painful scream - wow!

People like to slam it as an "Estranged" wannabe or a rip-off of Tom Petty (!) - yes, I've actually read that before - but I think it's awesome. The lyrics are NOT emo and whoever says that is probably just upset that it's not a misogynistic, simplistic straight-ahead rock-n'-roll song like "It's So Easy" (no dissing ISE - great song - but lyrically TWAT blows it away).

The song was given a more rock n' roll edge on the new tour and I think that's going to improve the finished version.

I love the song, mainly the second half.

The first half flows good, but not great. I'm sure it will polish up well though.............

Agreed.

The first half is the part that sounds the most incomplete to me and I think the studio version will sound vastly different.

People say "it sounds like hip-hop from ten years ago" but hell, those are drum loops and synth effects from a computer, of course it's going to sound like shit! If it sounds that good already imagine how good a polished cut will be.

I think the worst part is the "It was a long time for me..." bit - it's nice but doesn't flow well - sounds too abrupt. I hope that's touched up a bit.

The first half is good but the last three and a half minutes are mindblowing.

If I recall it correctly, the word "a mess" was pointed at the mixing quality of the two demos, NOT the structure of the song itself.

No, I have seen people refer to the song as a mess as well.

I think it is a common trait with new songs. Oh My God was labeled "chaotic" too by a lot of critics - I think it is just a sign that Axl is really experimenting with different styles, and I think that is part of the reason there has been such a delay with this thing - he is trying to make it sound perfect.

The song is on par with Estranged...Frankly, both don't appeal to a large % of people....If you think Estranged is an epic,
then I guess you wont be disappointed.
