My friend tells me that leather gloves are edible cause it's basically just cow meat.  Still sounds deadly to me..

I'm not sure that you can digest leather. There must be some sort of protein in there, but that doesn't mean your stomach will be able to break it down necessarily. Didn't the Donner party try eating their leather hides? And didn't most of them die of starvation? Good enough for me.
