License to Kill is honestly my all time favorite Bond film.

Incredibly dark the whole way through with an amazing villian, plus "the transport" scene in the end is just insane..

This one time we were stoned, talking about something or other, and my friend goes,

Man, we couldn't stop laughing for about half an hour.

Firstly i love both Timothy Dalton films, i always hate it when people knock those, especially License To Kill.  As for Brosnan he was a good Bond dogged down by poor films, shame really, Goldeneye was good but i never want to watch any of his others again.

On the subject of On Her Majesty's Secret Service, for years i have wanted this film to be remade, the story is great and it's fairly enjoyable it's only let down by the lead actor.  I remember reading once he was a model and they knew upon signing him he was a weak actor so to cover that up they gave him one of the stronger stories.

On the Connery front as a kid i loved all of his films, watching them again now i only really dislike Diamonds Are Forever.  As for Roger Moore, i have to admit i love cheese and really loved his films (bar Moonraker that plain sucked).  I know you guys seem to knock it but for me A View To A Kill was and is top notch.  True the plot was stupid but do you ever watch a film just for, well, lighthearted enjoyment.  As a big Christopher Walken & Avengers fan and with one of my fave themes, cheesy one liners, decent chases (Fire Engine stuff with the bridge, plus i did horse riding for years so that aspect struck a chord with me), no it's not serious and intelligent but do they all have to be, variety is the spice of life.

I do like the new direction though, Craig is a decent Bond, i found with the film it's one that is hard to digest in a way.  Great ride to start with but then it kind of went crappy at the end, overall solid stuff and after watching it and letting it sink in i thought yeah that was damn good and can't wait to watch it again.  Odd thing with the theme as well, heard it months ago, though it sucked, but when i heard it in the film itself i thought it rocked, and just thinking about the start of the film again, fantastic stuff, not sure about it being the best film but definately the best start.

Overall looking over the films i have loved Bond since a kid and the only ones i don't like as said are Moonraker, Diamonds are Forever and every Brosnan since Goldeneye...ewww....actually that's a fair few, but anyway, props to Dalton (Always slated) & Moore (Knocked for the cheese).

Also, I disagree with those that say a Bond actor should only do three movies.

I think Thunderball and Diamonds Are Forever were two of Sean's best.

For your Eyes Only and Octopussy (Moore's 5th and 6th films) were also two of his best.

James Bond needs to be no older than 45....unless he's portrayed by a man who just doesnt age

Sean Connery looked haggard pretty quick, and 58 year old Roger Moore in 'A view to a kill' was.....horrifying, and utterly absurd, the girls were easily young enough to be his children.....

...we must remember the Bond character is very much about male virility - the old 'every man wants to be him, every girl wants to be with him' cliche

Some geriatric Bond is never going to work....

The series also seems to work by a revolving door of Bond's - it gives the films their dynamism, i think they should keep changing every few films and continaully be reinventing - otherwise we have the rut Bond films were in from the late 60's to the mid 80's.....

Agreed. There's quite a bit wrong with the film, but I can't help but enjoy AVTAK - The music is excellent, the actors are interesting choices, and the story is interesting.

Peirce brosnan is good, but i thought his bond movies were relatively weak. he came out good with goldeneye which is a great movie adn then the movies got rather dull.

casino royale is a good bond.

The Living Daylights is a superb Bond film very much in the classic style - Dalton's Bond was the closest the series had come at that point to the Ian Flemming Bond. Dalton knows exactly how to play the character but struggles a bit with the jokes and the womanising. The film was trying to do exactly what Casino Royale did - reboot the series after Moore had effectively ended Bond as a serious action series
The villians are perhaps more low key than in the previous installments, but we do get the generic aryan baddie a staple of Bond's earlier days. Amazing car sequence, though how cutting a car half way through causes the whole thing to seperate doesnt make much sense

License to kill was Dalton's final appearence. Its not really a Bond film, its an ultra violent thriller very much trying to distance itself from the cheese of Roger Moore. Robert Davi gives the most sinister villian yet and the un-edited version (finally available after 18 years) is full of scences which are shocking for a Bond film. A must see film whether u like Bond films or not - a lot of people didnt like it because it didnt seem to fit with the Bond series

Yeah those 2 films are top notch, well said, as for this unedited version....is it part of one of those new special edition dvds?? Is there a lot of extra stuff.

Oh and on the subject of those ultimate edition dvds, has anybody got them, are the extras really good, all this James Bond talk has got me thinking about picking up some of them....

I saw Tomorrow Never Dies again tonight and I'm glad that I put it on my top ten at the start of the thread. Best of the Bronson films, IMHO. Good plot, tightly written and executed. I think the later Bronson films relied too much on action sequences and stunts at the expense of a strong story, but Tomorrow Never Dies is great all around. One of the more underrated Bond films, after License to Kill.

A few months ago I just said "what the fuck" and bought all four of the box-sets, along with the non-EON Bond film, Never Say Never Again, for a complete collection. It was expensive, but worth every penny, as I've really been enjoying the films. I usually watch a few a week. All of the films come with a bonus DVD (not available if you buy them separate) that contain tons of extras--TV commercials, trailers, interviews, documentaries, TV specials, music videos, etc.

I just watched From Russia With Love again for the second time in the last few months. A really great film. In almost every scene, there is a memorable line, a memorable look, a memorable fight. A sign of a true classic.
