I already have a powerful desktop so I just want an average laptop to be able to write on. I hate writing on my desktop.

I kinda want a Mac but I've been perusing eBay and they are pretty damn expensive. I found one for about $300 but it only has 2 GB of memory.

I'd like something with maybe a minimum of 30 or 40 GB. I'm willing to spend up to $400 or so (I don't have much money), I just want a nice, efficient laptop that I can write on and do some basic audio/video... 2 GB is just not enough for me, really.

Does anyone have any recommendations? Should I get a Mac or a Microsoft? Are there any good websites where you can find good deals?

Thanks a lot for any help.

Only 2Gb? You know Macs don't use Windows (by default), so I think 2Gb will be enough..... I mean 2Gb os RAM.

2Gb of hard drive space is waaaaay too little.  hihi

Sorry, I should have clarified - it was 2GB of hard drive space. I think the processor was 1GB. It was one of those iBooks that barely have any hard drive space. And it was still selling for over $200!

What do you guys think of this deal?

http://cgi.ebay.com/Apple-iBook-500Mhz-320-30Gig-Office-Wireless_W0QQitemZ220091600601QQcategoryZ80050QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Seems like a reasonable price given the specs for the item. 30 GB is about what I was looking for, and I used those iBooks last year a few times and I enjoyed them.

EDIT: It only has 320 MB of RAM though...  Embarrassed

Oh god... 2GB is SHIT all!

I WOULD get a Mac if you're gunna be using lots of programs... like Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Cinema4D, Dreamweaver, Flash... or really huge spaced games.

If you're just gunna be going online and stuff... get a PC.

By the way, if you like Windows, but hate PCs... you can actually get Windows for Mac, so don't go all "I HATE THE MAC LAYOUT!!" because you don't have to use it . smoking Smiley

Thanks Skynyrd Girl. There's only one copy left of that iBook I posted a link to (see above)... an hour ago there were four of 'em... I'm tempted to buy it but it only has like 324 MB of RAM and no DVD.

Don't do it. You'll SO regret it! Once you have it and realize how shit it is, you won't be able to sell it to anyone else because you won't be able to come up with ANYTHING good about it. All that'll be in your head is "This thing is a piece of shit... I may as well use it as an expensive coaster, or a really thin-book holder...

Save up some moolah and get yourself a decent iMac, then get Windows for it. Smiley And if you're used to a mouse, get a decent 2 button mouse with a scrollwheel.

Same here! I used to hate Macs, but I've just kinda got a bit used to them since that's what they use at college. The only PCs are in the library, and don't have any art programs on them at all. Just IE7 and Acrobat Reader... for research.

I will say... the Macs are shitloads faster, and don't crash so often.

Isn't that like buying a faberge egg and smashing it?

rofl No!

It'd be more like buying the Faberg? egg, realizing you don't really like the emeralds encrusted in it, so you take them off and replace them with amethysts... which are more to your taste. Smiley

That was more of a rhetorical question.

Windows is just plain clunky.
