Best part of the song is the middle, which I didn't used to like because it was such a shift in pace for the song. I still think it needs work with the Bucket solo (with the "spiral" outro effect into the "duh-duh-duh, duhduhduhduhduhduh ALL THAT I WANTED WAS..." bit).

However, when played live the crunchy riffs in the middle and the power chords give the song so much energy. It's something to rock out to.

I think favourite part in Better is the Finck solo towards the end of the song. It really shows that he can play beautiful, melodic solos. And I love it even more after hearing it played live.

As a guitar player, I also find this song really addictive to listen to. I really dig the tones and styles of Finck/Fortus/Bucket. Can't wait to hear the rest of the album.

I absolutley agree.

My band covers Better and by far my favorite moment is getting to hear that solo at the end.

Oh, without doubt. Probably my favourite bit, in terms of the 'little' things that should be in every song that the new band have done. There's just so much groove in it!, pity that it kind of gets a little bit buried live.

Well, from the versions that I've heard so far at least.

I couldn't agree more. Knowing it as well as we do, I usually just kinda let it run in my head if I can't hear Robin. Watching Robin groove like he does just kicks ass especially on solos like that.

I absolutely love "Better", my favourite new GNR song along witch "Catcher in the Rye"!

But I've seen it live in Europe two times and I didn't like it that much then. Axl had problems with the singing parts.

Can't wait to hear the studio version. I really hope it's going to be the single.

If you're talking about the radio version from WCCC....that's because it IS the same.  It's the "imsorry" version...

I was just listening to the leaked leaked copy of "Better" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezLO4sHuhcA  (thank Demon Wolf for the video) and there is alot of "Oh My God" moments during the song.  I noticed the voice synth effects and some of the guitar effects remind me alot of what was used for "oh my god".  I kinda find it funny because alot of people hated that song, and now some of the effects are used in "better"  And almost everyone I know on here loves it.

--Tommie
p.s.  "Better" is hands down my fav.

The vocals for both songs were recorded in 1999, so Axl was using the same equipment.

You are mixing the cards, just because they have some similar effects dont make the two songs compareable at all.
I like them both !

Better was written after 2002.
Robin wasnt even in the band when they recorded Oh My God.
He was on tour with Nine Inch Nails, so obviously Better is not from that time period since Robin wrote it.

Paul Huge, Gary Sunshine and Dave Navarro appear on the song as well as Robin Finck. Robin's part was written by Paul and extensively manipulated by our producer, Sean Beaven. Robin was not involved in the writing of the final recording though did participate in the arrangement. All lyrics were written by myself. Additional programming (jack boots, screeching tires, etc.) was by Stuart White.

Yep Better is not from 1999, the rough demos of IRS and TWAT are from 99! There is a full CD of other demos floating around somewhere but management got to the guy that had it at the time and offered him something to stop him leaking it. Better is a much later recording possibly from around 2002 but no one knows for sure, but judging by the Harley Ad it was pretty recent as the song is pretty much the same par the new Pitmann effect and Robins new guitar part at the end!

Yeah Robin wasnt involved in the final recording, thats what I said.
How does this answer my question about Better???

My mistake - the "Better" demo in the YouTube video is the only version available, but it's shit quality because the leaker only gave us a 128 kbs rip of the track.
