It's better to burn out than to fade away...

« on: April 12, 2004, 02:21:15 PM »

They say you can't judge a book (or an album) by its cover, but I say it certainly helps influence your decision.  This thread is just for you to say what your all-time favourite album covers are.  So without further ado, I offer my picks:

Blink-182 - Enema of the State (for obvious reasons)  drool

M?tley Cr?e - Theatre of Pain

Pearl Jam - Ten

Yes - Fragile

Nirvana - Nevermind

The Beatles - Abbey Road

The Rolling Stones - Beggars Banquet

Genesis - We Can't Dance

Metallica - Master of Puppets

Led Zeppelin - In Through The Out Door

Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath

The Strokes - Is This It

The Who - Who's Next

Elvis Presley - Elvis Presley

And of course, needing no introduction...

Elvis Presley - Elvis Presley

N.W.A. - Straight Outta Compton
Watch out.

Kiss - Psycho Circus
It's actually a hologram... the curtains open up to show the Clown Face "Entrance" to the circus with all the Kiss faces on the wall as well.

Pink Floyd - Echoes
Floyd fans should be able to pick out all sorts of things from various Pink Floyd album covers, great album cover.

DJ Danger Mouse - The Grey Album
The one I'm posting is the only one I could find on the internet right now.  My favourite was probably the cover of Abbey Road with Paul's head replaced by a big ole black Jay-Z head.  There's also one with a Jay-Z close up (like "The Blueprint Pt. 2" & 2.1) with the Beatles off in the background. Great CD too.

A nice little thread

Mine are:

Pearl Jam - Vs -
It's so in your face. it's even annoying to look at. I hate sheeps but I love this one. The symbolism is there, the sheep is ugly, so is the album.

Beatles - Abbey Road -The cover concept kicks ass. Just the four of them crossing the road like they are leading the world into another music revolution. Also, did anyone hear the legend behind the cover? If i remember correctly, the legend states paul had died, so the beatles used a double to replace him. Paul was left handed, the "replacement" in the cover holds a cigarrette with his right hand, and if you look closer, the Volkswagen beatle park left, reads a license plate LMW28IF. That 28IF means Paul would've been 28 had been alive.

Weezer - Blue album- That has to be the lamest album cover of all time, but I love it. They look like 4 college nerds out of calculus class. Brilliant!

Black Crows - Amorica - In the US the cover was banned, but not in Europe. The one with the American flag G-String with the pubic hair coming out.

U2 - War -  That angry kid is frightening. The album is not great but the cover deserved to be here amongst my top.

The Jesus and Mary Chain - Munki - somewhat similar to U2's war, but a girl instead. Black and white picture, the girl looks shocked, mouth wide open, with a reflection on the top right corner. It's a little faded.

How about you? List your fav...

Edit: Sorry, didn't notice there was already a thread about this!

every Storm Thorgerson design is absolutely amazing. He's definitely responsible for the most memorable album covers in rock.

apart from that I'd go with :
 - The Doors - Strange Days
 - Deep Purple - In Rock
 - Queensryche - Hear in the now frontier
 - The Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers
 - The Clash - London Calling

just of the top o my mind n not including the GNR album covers
also all the Dream Theater and Bathory (see Twilight of the Gods)

VULGAR DISPLAY OF POWER. This is one brutal cover that isn't stupid like a Cannibal Corpse cover. It's straight to the point, and you know what kind of music you're going to get when you put this in your CD player!

Stone Temple Pilots - Shangri-La Dee Da

Soundgarden - Down on the Upside (not necessarily the import)

Dave Matthews Band - Under the Table and Dreaming

Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here

the coolest thing about that cover is it is really someone getting fucking knocked across the face. they didn't have someone pose for it. Pantera were cool.

The original cover to Hendrix's 'Electric Ladyland'  drool

Sorry, people. Thinking with my crotch instead of my brain, agian. You gotta admit though, the original cover was more appropriate for the title than the close up shot of Jimi used for the CD re-issue, right?
