I always thought that when GN'R became popular, and Slash become the new guitar hero, it was like they were the opposite of what Van Halen were about (at least musically).

Sure, both bands  were from L.A., but it's not like you can say AFD sounds like  Van Halen.

Maybe Scott or Dave are huge Van Halen fans...

Slash can tap, chooses not to.  Tapping is not that hard.  Legato is much easier than being an alternate picker in my book.  He won't be awesome at it, but he will do enough to get by.  He did good on the beat it solo with MJ, which was originally recorded by EVH.  I expect him to play his BC Rich.

I hope they do "Ain't Talkin Bout Love".

Maybe they couldn't get any other super band to perform. Not many left anyway...

Just thinking about it, maybe Axl's current GN'R is better suited to induct them, having someone like Bumblefoot who's more of an Eddie Van Halen style than a Slash.

I think he's even played Van Halen on the last tour during his solo....

Anyway, I just don't know how they picked VR.

It's just not the first band I think of when I think of bands that were influenced by Van Halen.

Yeah, but unfortunately he's not a famous mega rock star.  Sad

And his rendition of Eruption was flawless.

I agree Jarmo, but what other rock bands are there that would be more fitting?

I can't think of any other high profile rock band... aside from the new GN'R lineup...

I love that song, and I think Scott could pull that off quite nicely.  I hope he leaves his cop hat at home though.

I think this is pretty awesome, about VR doing this, and can't wait to see it!  VH reminds me, in a way, of some other band we all know.....been through a lot of personnel (although NO ONE can top that other band, in terms of personnel changes!), many internal conflicts, and a member of the band who, apparently, has some issues (Eddie).   So, it's my hope that they can get it together, long enough, to make an appearance.

I agree. VR, GNR, or any hard rock band doesn't seem like a suitable presenter.  I'm not sure I can explain it; it is just a gut reaction. If I ran the Hall of Fame, I would have Ray Davies of the Kinks present. As everybody knows, Van Halen had a huge hit with their song "You Really Got Me". It seems to me given Ray Davies rep and the song, it would make more sense.

Yea so do I ,I agree with the GNR being the kind of opposite of what VH stood for but eh you know its good I guess. Yes I think that seeing the current GNR would have been a way better fit since BF can tap and is more technically suited for most VH songs.

Well, Slash jammed with Sammy Hagar lots of times, and Eddie Van Halen and Slash knows eachothers, I?ve seen photos of them together hugging eachother and looking like friends..  But who said that VR are going to play VH songs, maybe they are playing their own songs?

Report: All VAN HALEN Members To Attend ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME Induction

According to Premiere Radio Networks, all the members of VAN HALEN ? Eddie and Alex Van Halen, David Lee Roth, Michael Anthony and Sammy Hagar ? have told the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame that they will be attending the induction ceremony on March 12 in New York. Roth, Anthony and Hagar had said from the start that they would be there, and Premiere Radio Networks learned last night (Thursday, March 1) that Eddie and Alex have reserved a table for themselves and their families. However, they will not be performing. VELVET REVOLVER will pay tribute to them, with the band's Scott Weiland and Slash actually inducting them. This marks the second year in a row that one of the inductees, who are all there and accounted for, will not perform. METALLICA paid tribute to a non-performing BLACK SABBATH last year.

For the first time the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be broadcast live on VH1 Classic, and be streamed on AOL without commercials. The ceremony will air on Monday, March 12 at 8:00 p.m. Previous induction ceremonies were only offered on a tape-delay basis on VH1.

Hmmm I have a feeling they are going to play Runnin' With The Devil , something that strays away from the tapping and such. EVH is more "shred" but has a blues touch to him. Slash always struck me as straight blues rock you know. I can see VR doing justice to that..
