In the April 2007 issue of Q magazine they have the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time:

87. Axl Rose - Mad, Bad mouthpiece of Guns N' Roses

An Indiana choirboy turned Los Angeles street lowlife, Axl Rose's complex personality shapes his voice.  At times the Guns N' Roses frontman is a tender romantic, at others a wild-eyed preacher pouring poison in your ear.  His habit of sustaining notes audaciously over the ends of songs suggests a man in love with the act of making noise.  Rose took singing more seriously than might be thought : when Appetite For Destruction reached its first million sales, he sent a bouquet of flowers to his vocal coach.

Key Songs:

Welcome To The Jungle
November Rain
Sweet Child O' Mine
Nightrain
Better*
Think About You
It's So Easy
Patience
You Could Be Mine
Don't Cry
Civil War

*Better isn't really in there  Grin

I just typed out from the magazine.  So I aint gonna type the whole thing, and I left the mag in work.  From memory, the top 10 were:

Elvis
Aretha Franklin
Frank Sinatra
Otis Redding
Marvin Gaye
Mick Jagger
Kurt Cobain
Robert Plant
Jeff Buckley

Can't remember the other one

Yeah no shit....his voice fit the music but he was a TERRIBLE singer....and I like Nirvana. Another magazine to wipe your ass with.......I don't know any other rock singer in the history of time who was invited to sing with more musical legends on stage then Axl Rose. The guy has about 5 or 6 voices and he can truely sing just about anything.

Yeah that list fuckin sucks.

Kurt Cobain is so overrated, and its just cause he died. Fuck that guy.

P.S. Axl has had vocal coaches since the early 90s, maybe even before that.

Sure you can! Aretha Franklin ranks below Elvis in singing ability? And Frank Sinatra is right behind her? Who compiled this list, The Helen Keller Academy for the Deaf and Hopelessly Nostalgic?!

See, that was easy. You just weren't trying hard enough.

Though, in all seriousness, it's pretty terrifying that it's 2007 and yet both Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra are apparently still held in such high esteem.

#87? Axl is overrated. (And that number was obviously picked because AFD was released in 1987, and that makes the magazine look cool)
