I've always typed it in lower case, based on the grounds that I don't believe in such a thing. I also type "troll", "pixie" and "yeti" in lower case.

Well, if you say 'no', you run the risk of getting on his bad side if it turns out he really does exist.  So, uh, yeah, I believe in the big guy (or gal or whatever else).

If not for Google, your post would have had my head spinning for days.  Now I'm just depressed because it turns out Pascal didn't think through the possibility of believing in the wrong God (guess what? I didn't either). 
 

ha.....anyway, here's a question I've thought about recently. Who thinks belief or non-belief is a choice (as so often it is described in terms of religion.) Much as I'd love the idea of spending a blissful eternity with everyone I love, there is absolutely no way I can 'choose' to believe anything about Christianity (or any other religion.) It's not that I don't want to but I can't believe....it's not a choice.

There is no such thing as choice, only genes and enviroment. That applies to everything.

I have not read the posts, other than the heading......I believe God is a woman! Only a woman could have made Earth and life as beautiful as this and made it so darn harsh and confusing as well, and all things being equal, women are beautiful, but will never understand them!

Now, I imagine my work here should be done after being derogative and chauvinistic towards the almighty Lord, but still I feel compelled to post on.? I do believe in a God, yet in no freakin way will I attempt to explain how it works.? I think that, just as cats and dogs can't understand the concept of war, we cannot begin to understand God.? Maybe (just maybe) the purpose that mankind instinctively feels - this absolute innate determination to find answers in life - maybe that is to evolve and improve until we can understand God.? Maybe that's why mankind is so special, because we do have a quest to discover the meaning of life.? Maybe everything - maths, science, beauty, nature, the stars - maybe they're all clues to help us discipher the great mystery that surrounds us all.

Or maybe we're not special - maybe our intelligence is just another survival technique.? What's brilliant is it doesn't really matter, we can believe what we like with little consequence.? If we die and nothing happens then we'll never get the chance to be disappointed!
