Let's say a kid's parents both have blue eyes
Let's say the grandparents on the paternal side both have blue eyes
Let's say the grandparents on the maternal side have blue and brown eyes
What is the probability the kid has brown/green eyes ?

I think the odds are pretty strong the kid will have blue eyes...like mine! But it aint mine, I swear.
A genetics professor named Christopher Carlson posted this PS to a similar question looking for eye color probablity:
"Although eye color is generally taught as a simple Mendelian trait with
dark alleles dominant over light alleles, it is in fact a
quantitative trait with a continuous spectrum of phenotypes and multigenic
inheritance. Thus, eye color does not directly reflect paternity, and dark
eyed children of light eyed parents are not necessarily adopted."
Hope that helps.

Sounds like it's time for genetics 101 via Punnet Square. Maybe something like this would help?

i really couldn't tell ya that BUT i can say that i'm one with more than one colors in my eyes
you probably won't believe me but my left eye is a mix of brown and green and a little blue and my right one has a mix of green and blue. this is wierd but sometimes my right eye will change color like from an even mix to a mostly blue or mostly green and a very small bit of yellow and when i was little (3 - 6) my eyes used to change with the weather?
i knew you wouldn't believe?

If it's JUST brown and blue, then I think the answer is 0%. Because blue is recessive, so for someone to have blue eyes, they have two recessive allele. I'm not sure how green fits into the mix, though.
Brown eyed parents can have blue eyed kids if each has one dominant and one recessive allele, because the dominant (duh) dominates the recessive. SO, if two brown eyed people with one dominant and one recessive have a kid, there's a 25% chance of it having two dominant alleles, a 50% chance that it will be one dominant and one recessive allele, and a 25% that it will have two recessive alleles, and be blue eyed.

Lock her in the basement to do some thinking if you ever get a brown eyed kid.

My mom has blue eyes, my dad has hazel and both my brother and I have blue eyes.
I have blue, my husband has hazel and one of my sons has green and the other has brown. Figure that out.

Your mom is "ee" and your dad is "Ee". So, there was a fifty percent chance that each of their children would be blue eyed. You and your brother are both "ee".
Your husband could be either "Ee" or "EE". Your brown eyed son is definitely "Ee". I still have no idea how green fits into this.

Sounds like you have some explaining to do!
Just kidding, but I did think hazel was recessive. And I have no idea where green fits in either, but I seem to recall that it was also recessive.
Umm...is hazel different than brown? I though hazel was just female-speak for brown.

Near zero. If both the parents have blue eyes there aren't any brown genes left, unless...

Good answer.
Since most of my husband's family has blue eyes, he would be Ee.
Hazel to me is green/light brown/grey mixture. So, I guess that's where the green comes from which happens to be the rarest color.
I like blue - oh well, I have a chance to have blue eyed grandchildren!

It's a trick question--traits can skip generations.
