I use fingerstyle ala Geddy Lee and Billy Sheehan.

But when i sweep, shreed, and play fast arpeggios for fun, I ordinarily use 0,6 mm nylon for best performance.
Or sometimes i play mentioned stuff with fingers. Picks are unnecessary to me when it comes to speed.

ive never seen EVH use a quarter as a pick (though he had one on his frankenstrat to keep the bridge from going up and sharpening notes)

anyway, i use Dunlop Gator Grips 2.0mm, i just like the feel of them.

Purple Tortexes. Slash uses them so i thought id try them and it turns out I like thick picks. Ive been on the same one for almost a year now. i use the blue ones occasionaly whn i cant find a pruple turtle

Same here whenever I can, 1.14 mm, right?? I remember reading something that says those were the same size Slash and/or Izzy used.? They say thinner ones are good for strumming or for rhythm players, while thicker ones are good for lead playing.? 1.14 is right about the median of the two, so it's just a solid all-around pick.

Sadly, I only have one pick right now, and it's not a 1.14, but rather a huge-ass Jim Dunlop Stubby; something like 2 or 3 mm.? But it works well enough for now.

yeah something like that. Ive been using the same 2 for over a year now

Haha... Don't hate me, everyone, but I was on the beach down near Frisco, and I found magnificent shells and seaglass. The shell was actually very triangular, albeit three times the size, and rough on one side while smooth and abalone-rainbow on the other. It plays amazing! There is a bit of metallic composite on the playing side, and it makes the strings buzz and hiss and give it all sorts of cool pitches. The glass is nice too, as it is "unbreakable" due to the rigors of the sea. Makes a unique sound on the strings. Try them... I prefer them over the plastic.

Yes, you can play faster with a thicker pick. Don't ask me why, but I've always felt they come off the strings quicker than a flexible pick.

you can play faster with thicker picks simply because its a matter of science.

thin picks bend.......so there is a small ammount of time where the pick lags because it is flexing when going a cross the string.

thick picks on the other hand are instant since they dont bend.

and you can learn to be very precise with them.

however.......for good ole accoustic strumming nothing beats those paper like picks.

I got two from Gilby. One in 1996 and one in 2002.
Both were orange with "Cure Me Or Kill Me" on them.
He must have had a shitload made to still be using them.

I use my nail on my middle finger, I hold the finger steady with my thumb. As an extension of my hand, it feels more natural.  ok

i mainly use the orange standard dunlop ones (can't remeber the size) as its the one my friend was using when he first got me to play guitar and i like it although my fav is the small purple dunlop although a recently lost it

the best pick i have is a black custom Anthrax one which the band use but i have only ever used it once as the band actually used it and i caught it when thrown out and as its actually got the scrape marks on it from use i don't want to ruin it. its the perfect thickness i think its thin but doesn't feel that thin when using it
