I won't be able to see them, though I really wanted to...  Cry

That set list rocks. I'd love to hear Morello playing the Soundgarden material, guess I have to find myself a bootleg of this tour!

Chris said he wouldn't play Rage material as he wished to avoid political lyrics....hmmm, that didn't last long!

It looks like Audioslave is taking a page from the Velvet Revolver tour book:

Ever since the Audioslave concept was unveiled in the spring of 2001, fans of the rock and roll supergroup have wondered whether the band's members would ever revisit the material they're perhaps better, if not best, known for ? or, more specifically, how Chris Cornell would attack songs like "Killing in the Name" and "Sleep Now in the Fire."

On Thursday night in Las Vegas, where Audioslave kicked off their spring tour at the Joint, what was once a sort of band taboo became the stuff of concert lore. For the first time in more than five years, Rage Against the Machine and Soundgarden material was performed live in front of a thirsty audience ? and not by some tattooed cover band on dollar-drafts night at some bar in some college town in the middle of nowhere.

Cornell, guitarist Tom Morello, bassist Tim Commerford and drummer Brad Wilk shocked audiences last week by digging into their respective vaults and dusting off some moldy oldies. After playing "Set It Off," "Exploder," new song "Your Time Has Come" and "Like a Stone," the band launched into Soundgarden's "Spoonman." Later on in the show, Audioslave covered ? if you could call it that ? Rage's "Sleep Now in the Fire," followed immediately by "Outshined," from Soundgarden's Badmotorfinger.

For the band's encore, Audioslave started light, with an acoustic rendition of Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun," and then exploded with versions of Rage's "Testify" and "Killing in the Name." The band performed the same six songs the next night in Phoenix.

A collective willingness to acknowledge the bandmembers' pasts is somewhat of a new thing for Audioslave. Prior to this tour and the recording of the band's forthcoming disc, Out of Exile, Audioslave struggled with an identity crisis, Cornell said recently. In order to sell themselves as a new band that was more than just the dude from Soundgarden with those other dudes from Rage, Audioslave had decided against playing anything but material from their self-titled debut.

"In 10 months of touring, we did nothing but play Audioslave songs," he said. "Even though we have vast career catalogues, we didn't touch on that. We carved ourselves out, I believe, a spot for Audioslave on its own terms and by itself."

A source close to the band said Audioslave expect to continue digging into back catalogs on this spring jaunt, but that they'd be mixing it up a bit more, as far as what songs they'll perform.

----------------------------------------------

What do you guys think about this?  I kind of respected the fact that Audioslave wanted to be known for the music they've written as a band.  I suppose, like VR, there's no NEED to reject their past glory... and it also can really light up a live performance.  Really, I suppose they are just cover songs... but 6 of them?  It seems like the old songs may overshadow the new ones.

On the other hand, I would fuckin' love to see the guys who originally wrote those songs performing them.  Does anyone here know where I could go to download a copy of Chris Cornell belting out Killing In The Name?  I'm not sure I can picture it!

VR usually plays 6 "covers" 3 GNR, 2 STP and 1 that varies.

I think this makes me more interested in going to a Audioslave show  ok

I think that all depends, when I saw them they did like 2 or 3 STP songs and 1 GN'R song.

You can download the new Audioslave track Your Time Has Come from here:
http://www.bandbuilder.com/drm_your_time_has_come_audioslave/

After a few listens I quite like it, it's really groovy and upbeat, and a little different to the stuff on their first album.

Metallica fans might also recognise that main riff too (Bad Seed), but it still rocks, can't wait to get the album! ok

I can assure you the vast majority of Metallica's remaining fans hate Bad Seed. Stolen riffs suck, and the song is mediocre.

I'm a Metallica fan, so I guess I'm in the minority when I say I like Bad Seed then.

I also think this Audioslave song sounds pretty good too.

The first single was Be Yourself, which was more laidback, kind of like Like A Stone, I'm not sure if this is their new single.
This download might just be a marketing ploy or something.

Either way, I'm still looking forward to the new album, their first album still gets regular spins in my stereo. ok

LOS ANGELES ? More than four years after forming, Audioslave are finally launching their first headlining arena tour.

"We've done smaller tours at the beginning of records, we've done Lollapalooza, but this is our first real official Audioslave tour," guitarist Tom Morello said Thursday (August 18) during a break from rehearsals.

The trek kicks off September 25 in San Francisco and wraps up November 18 in Long Beach, California. Electronic-happy British rockers Kasabian and South African metal band Seether are opening.

"We're very involved in picking the bands," Morello said. "Kasabian is great. I know less about Seether, but I hear they rock."

Audioslave's set will mix songs from both their albums, as well as new material and tunes from their past bands.

"We were playing some Rage Against the Machine and Soundgarden songs in the past, but we'll probably be playing a wider variety of those this time out," Morello said. "Between Rage, Soundgarden and Temple of the Dog, there's 11 or 12 records of our own that we could draw from, so it's pretty exciting."

Audioslave have also been known to play a cover or two, such as the White Stripes' "Seven Nation Army" and Nick Lowe's "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding," although those days might be over.

"We have so much material now, including songs on Out of Exile that we haven't even played yet," singer Chris Cornell said. "We're a band that loves to do covers, but the more music we put out, the less that will be happening."

The fall trek will also mark another first for Audioslave. The band is donating a portion of the proceeds to various nonprofit organizations, including Morello and System of a Down singer Serj Tankian's Axis of Justice.
