Nah, in all fairness a lot of students are dicks, but then so are many people.  Where i'm at there's a whole lot of people who seem to think that living up to stereotypes is all that is required of a person in their situation - these are the same people who probably see it just as an extension of high school.  Uni should be a time to better yourself but a lot of people choose to waste it, but fuck 'em!

The answer to Rage's question is obvious:  There are lots of annoying people out there and if they give students a bad name it's cause these people tend to be the loudest.  There's lots of down to earth people at uni, you've just gotta filter through the masses to find them.

What an odd thing to say....

Heh, just fucking with ya... I actually just got my bachelor's degree a few days ago, now going for the master's. Still got some work to do...

I don't know how the system's over there, but in Finland a bachelor's degree from a university means (in most cases) that the person was just too lazy to write his/her master's thesis, and got stuck with the BSc.

over here a masters is a seperate qualification:

BA/BSC
MA
PhD

I looked at doing a Masters but in the UK a degree in anything but medicine/engineering is statistically worthless - my History degree (statistically speaking) will get me 54k more than a non grad over the course of a life time...

...but it cost ?15k to get it...so 39k over the course of a lifetime? Thats like ?1000 a year more than a non grad -  I spend ?1500 a year just getting to work crying

canada has teh same break down as the UK, though im not sure how long a BA/BSC takes there.... its min 4yrs here, anyhting under that is mostly a diploma program, though in some areas there are degrees that are similar to the US 3yr associate degree

No. Up until now at least in the University that I'm in it was not even possible to get a bachelor's degree. You had to go straight for the master's degree. It's changing now so that it's mandatory to do, and possible to stop after the Bachelor's, but it is not a recommended option.

Agreed, in the UK it's generally a degree for people who are interested in a subject but as far as careers it won't get you any further than a Bachelors and you
won't get you into a university/research career without a PhD. It's different in the US, a Masters degree is definitely a career booster - though in my observation/experience a UK Bachelors is about equal to a US Masters for content/difficulty (outside of Ivy League, MIT, Caltech kind of institutions.)

A university student  would  write: "Speak for yourself. For  all those reasons  they are resented!"  rofl

People who are beneath me are people who lack the intelligence to be themselves and therefore follow a crowd, doing whatever that crowd does, and forgetting who they are deep down inside.

So yes, chavs are beneath me. They are cowards, who follow each other, do not have their OWN voice, and beat up on people more intelligent than they.

Emos are also beneath me, but not so far beneath me as chavs, as they don't beat up on individuals.

I couldn't care less if someone was in low-paid employment or if they're working class, if they're a decent person with their own mind, and not some drone, then I'm cool with them. If on the other hand they're a cunt who works for The Man and screws over decent people regularly, then I'm NOT cool with them and they'll have to do a hell of a lot to redeem themselves in my eyes.

All I care about really is whether someone is a good person or not, and also whether or not they have a mind and voice of their own.

They can all get into uni if they want to - they may have to work harder but the oppertunities are there.  I make no apologies for my class and I make no apologies for getting an education.  I struggle to understand why anyone would choose not to go to uni considering the alternative of going straight into full-time work for the rest of your life.  Uni gives you options and the chance to better yourself so you're prepared for what's in store.

You'll find pricks in every walk of life - students, doctors, teachers, NUNS (I went to catholic school for 12 years).
If someone is looking down their nose at you, it's because they feel badly about themselves.  It's not about you (or anyone else), it's about them.
