[lol, you cant be waiting for 10 years since first chinese democracy mention was in '99.
The first mention of a new GN'R -album was in '96, so ...
From Metal Hammer November 1995 an interview with Slash
How much work towards the next Guns album did you expect the rest of the band to have done when you finished the Snakepit tour?
"When I left town, Axl and Matt and Duff and I had worked on new material. I hadn't heard Axl sing anything, but he was there while we were fucking around jamming.
"And we tried out different guitar players, did that whole bullshit thing with Zakk (Wylde)... Just to get that story straight, it's nothing against Zakk, it was just not the right... I love jamming with Zakk on his own, as a separate entity, but in Guns N' Roses it doesn't sound right.
"Anyway, they were supposed to keep working while I was gone. That's why Matt didn't come on tour with us, because he was supposed to help keep that foundation for them to jam. Well they only jammed like twice since I was gone, so no one had really been doing anything."
There have been rumours about Izzy writing for the next Guns album, leading to further rumours and speculation that he's going to re-join the band. How much truth is involved there, and how do you get on with Izzy these days?
"Izzy jammed with Snakepit in Chicago, and we did a Stones song, and it was great to see him. But Izzy quit Guns because of the same bullshit that sort of forced me to take off for a while.
"He's been writing; he wrote some stuff with Duff. He wants to write songs, but he doesn't wanna deal with the whole thing. And it took me a while to finally get to the point where I couldn't handle it either, y'know?
"He wants to write material, but he's not really sure what he wants to do. He's so laid back. He doesn't want to deal any pressure. Izzy does what he wants to do.
"As much as has gone on, and as much as I resent Izzy for quitting and all that, and leaving me in weird spots where I had to find a replacement weeks before the next leg of a tour, or if he didn't play on the "Use Your Illusion" records - which is for the most part true - looking back on it, Izzy's Izzy."
What do you mean he didn't play on "...Illusion" albums?!
"I had to double guitars up for him on most of it. He didn't play very much."
Have any songs actually been written for the next GN'R album?
"Yeah! We've got tapes of what Axl considers great songs, which from my point of view is just me playing the guitar! I haven't heard any lyrics or any vocals, so I don't know what a song is until then. You know what I mean?"
How long can Guns afford to leave releasing a new album before people start to lose interest?
"Thinking about how people are gonna react, or how long we can be away and so on, is really only an afterthought considering just getting the band together to make what I consider a good record, and take it from there. If we have to start all over again, fine, so be it. I have no problems with that; I'm just doing it now, with another band. As long as the integrity and the quality of the band is naturally there, where we don't even have to sit there and think about it, that's what I'm into.
"I'd love to be on the road right now doing my fifth album or whatever, but the way things are and the way Guns N' Roses has always been - which is that it'll be done when it's done - the most important thing is to do a cool record. And if we have to work that much harder to establish the fan base or whatever, that's going to have to be the way it is. If we were gonna be working on an annual basis - every year: "Here's a record" - and star turning out crap, that would be more disappointing.
"But I have to tell you one thing: I do want to get a Guns N' Roses record out as soon as possible, so we can do a tour and so that I can then go back and do another Snakepit record afterwards. It's developing into being such a good band."
If you recorded a bunch of songs and then realised that it somehow wasn't right, would you still put it out?
"Well, like that stupid "Sympathy For The Devil" track we did - granted it sort of sounds like Guns N' Roses, but it was my vehicle to help get the band into one room. But who shows up? It's Duff and Matt and me who do the whole track, then Axl did the other bit by himself a week later. That wasn't my idea of something that we should've released, and it definitely wasn't what I was hoping for to be the thread that was going to get the band back together and get us inspired to get out and do it.
"On the next Guns project, once we get into the right frame of mind, I know we'll do a great record."
The right frame of mind is the key, right?
"That's the only real key - to get everybody going, "Let's do this"; "That's cool"... Cos we've always written as a band, so if I make up something, that spurs somebody else's interest, and then all of a sudden everybody is happy and having a good time playing. That's a rock'n'roll band!"
If you can get everyone in the right frame of mind, you can almost see an album coming out perhaps not quickly, but fairly painlessly.
"Painlessly! That's the key. And I've seen it happen, trust me."
Do you think there's any possibility at all that there won't be another GN'R album?
"Er... You're talking just to me. If you were to have all of us sitting here, our different views on the next Guns record would all be very individual. But from my point of view, I just wanna do a brash hard rock record, with maybe one ballad on it. Ask Axl the same question and you'd get a completely different answer.
"In all honesty, I think Guns is one of those bands that will just be around forever. It'll always be in some state of turmoil here and there, but because we're so close in a lot of ways - even with Izzy being gone; I've seen him, he replaced Gilby when he broke his wrist, and he played with us on the Snakepit tour - and we've gone through so much together, we naturally fucking feel like family. It's just the little bickering shit that goes on over ideas and this and that and the other, and it's something that's an obstacle that I think we've always conquered whenever it come up. So I think we'll be around for ever."

Nice interview. ?In '96 I saw GN'R mentioned on a record store's "soon to be expected new albums"-list. ?Now indeed we all know it couldn't happen. Strange if you think back to those days.

I've been waiting for 13 years. I still won't complain because I know the album will come out when Axl, the band and record company think it's ready. I trust them and I'm sure it's not far away.

With the fans?
/jarmo
Yeah, us lot who have been waiting the best part of 8-10 yrs for an album
IMO its justified for people to be pissed off with the band for keeping us waiting. And its not so easy just to simply stop following the band
I don't get the "sympathise with the fans" part.
Like I'm not a fan because my point of view differs from those of you who "wait".
I don't "wait" because the artists I listen to don't owe me anything and because I believe artists should have the right to decide when they want to share their art with the rest of us.

It's funny how you see some people who've only started following the band in 2000 or 2001 start to moan about the wait or losing patience. Many of us, myself included, have waited since '93 for new material thinking that The Spaghetti Incident was just a hold over until new material much like Lies. In some respects, it's a testament to the original band that so many people still follow this band, feeding on whatever scraps that we can get. The live shows aside, I think most of us are ready to feast. Hopefully this prolonged fasting won't last much long.
Cheers,
Andrew

I am not kissing anybody's ass, but that is definitely the point.
They weren't doing the record for us, they were doing it for themselves.
When they feel comfortable with releasing it, they will do it.
If they think they need more time, they should take it.

It's not like the 80's when 2 good singles and another half hour of filler will cut the mustard, in this day and age we expect 60 to 80 minutes of kick ass tunes to buy an album. Patience............

Well i like many other have been waiting 11-12 years that was when it was announced GNR were going back into the studio to do some recordings
some recording? Hmm live era is out and people say that it has studio touchs. Who knows? They could be doing final touchs to live version of some musics... like november rain. Axl's voice sounds different there.

Not to be off subject, but almost everything in the music industry today is FULL of filler. There aren't many good albums with 60-80 minutes worth of good music anymore.

I will repeat one sentence I have written in a similar threat.
The album will hit stores when it is done. And it will be done when it is done.
You have to realize that the band will finish the album when everything is ready for that.

you`re probably the smartest poster this board has ever seen
axl should just keep his mouth shut, if he isn`t able to deliver and keep his promises anyways....
i highly doubt anyone here thinks, that what`s going on with this fuckin CD is normal in any way. even axl had to admit that in his last letter. of course he found someone to blame for that... it wasn`t him by the way
The reason Axl has to make excuses is because of posts like this. He actually wrote in the letter that March 6 wasn't a promise and here you are saying that Axl can't keep his promises.
I've got far more things to be pissed off about than the release of CD erose, maybe you are the one who needs to take a break if you really think this affects people's lives, I'm just saying that its not unreasonable for people to be dissapointed with delay after delay.
i see your point and i agree to a certain extent, but i don't see the point of comming here, bitching about it you know. One should have gotten used to delays by now and after all, this is gn'r. You know axl is going to do this his way anyway...
And where did i state anything about it affecting peoples lives?
I don't know, i just don't think theres much of a point complaining about how Axl handles his shit. It's not going to do any good anyway.. Plus lately there's been plenty of other interesting things going on the gn'r world. No need to stress...
Well people seem to assume that some 'fans' who are patiently waiting but at the same time excited and then occasionally dissapointed that they don't see the album are somehow suicidal and their lives are run by it. True there are a very few that seem to take things a little far (e.g. Nesquick / Buckethead) but on the whole people are just really keen to finally get their hands on an album thats been talked about so much, by the band, management and so forth but never actually delivered.
If you look at my posts, I don't bitch. I come here because its a cool place to see whats going on and I like how its run. I just get the feeling that whilst there are a few whiners, its almost not 'politically correct' to express your disappointment without being met with 'oh quit whining it will be released and its not the bands fault'. I'd just like to see the mods chill out a bit and empathise with some of the people that really want to hear it but keep being denied!

C'mon already! I guess you wouldn't take Axl's saying the album was coming out last year (MULTIPLE TIMES) as a promise either ??

I know that this has been said plenty of times here before but I can't recall the answer.
How much notice was there before the release of the Illusions ?
Just something that I was thinking about last night.
About 6 weeks from the time Axl said (on stage, in LA) that he and Slash had put the finishing touches on the album the day prior til the actual release.
However, you have to consider, too, that there was a single already out...
Thanks Pilferk.

Fair enough.
You obviously have lots of passion for this band. Not many other websites have been going for as long as this. Be honest, don't you have any days (maybe when listening to the leaks) when you think 'Fucking hell, I wish they'd just get on and release some more music'? Cos if you do, to me, thats waiting. Even some of my friends who don't come here or even on the web who are big fans say this!
You have to question what this band is about if they don't release new music. Releasing is the only true medium for expressing what they are about, what their sound is and how people can show their appreciation. Yeah, there are the concerts, but I dunno, you can't just slap a concert on your cd player and when you go its all over in two hours. We need them to start creating a legacy for themselves or otherwise why not just call it a day and we can all revel in what GNR was? (just to clarify here, I don't want that to happen)

Right now I'm waiting for the spring.... I know it comes around March/April in this part of the world.

There is no need to go around and wait and wait for the record. It will come out in the end.. it will not come any sooner or later if you go around waiting and waiting.. i think the last month and weeks are enough proof that its launching soon.. so just be happy about that.. and dont get let down al the time... So fucking much points to this spring.. and i guess that sould be good enough..

I visit this site regularly but I rarely post. However I want to say that I agree with Jarmo. I have been GNR fan since 1992. I really love GNR and the AFD lineup, however for me the new lineup is wonderful and I respect them as much as the older one and for me Axl has always been the soul and the spirit of GNR. I wish to have CD in my hands but I don?t think that Axl owe us anything. He is an artist and if he wants he let us know his music. He is not a liar he is not the man who is constructing my house and have to finish in the promised date. He is an artist and we all love him because maybe in many ways he is different from most of us who have a routinely profession. He doesn?t have to work from 8 to 6. He works when the inspiration comes to him. I love his open letter because I like the way he express his feeling but I can not take this letter as a promised or legal contract because he express his thought at this moment and nobody in this forum know what happened in his head or in his personal life. Personally I am happy for seeing him again in 2006 (in youtube videos because I live in South America) and seeing him well, happy and healthy. I don?t think in the wasted years theory because I am sure that he has takes advantage of all this years growing in his personal life and making his wonderful music (like better, the blues, and the others) and I am happy because he has shared any of his new art with us.
