Axl told us in his letter that there were only very minor details remaining, things that he had been promised would have been taken care of in time for a 2006 release, which implies that whatever was left to do (contract negotiations, promotional planning, artwork, etc) were things that axl didn't need to be a part of, so then the recording and mixing etc. must have been done long ago. Also, he stated that as soon as they know that it is or is not coming out on march 6 he would tell us, which must mean that he doesn't know. Axl wouldn't lie to us, right? I mean, it was Merk who was responsible for all of the lies and lack of info and now that he's gone things must be better right?

Axl would totally lie, and he was just using merck as his fall guy.

I mean, c'mon, Axl is a seasoned veteran of the music industry yet claims he doesn't know how long it takes for an album to come out.  what a load of shit.

Last time Axl released an album was in 1993.

Marketing and production has changed a bit since then...

I found this statement on AOL. Not sure how valid it is but...

"David Geffen's record company was the label for 'Democracy' for many unrewarding years, finally washing their hands of it by tossing it to Interscope. "

Go mid way down that page and right below the banner " Where's the Chinese Democracy" click on photo nr 11 of 19 and there you'll see David Geffen's pic and that statement. ? I love that banner that reads GNR AND THE CASE OF THE MISSING ALBUM. ? ? peace

The poll shows that 47% of the voters are still interested, although only 17% are as interested as before.

Maybe this is the actual truth?

Among many many bs captions? whatever, well find bringbackadler ok

I'm guessing he wanted CD out first.... And yes, if that contract did exist, thats why axl lost....

I thought it was under the old contract and the company was sick of waiting on axl for a new album.. they wanted to recoop their losses...

Yeah wouldn't it be weird that the media reported several times that geffen side said no cd was the reason but their contractual justification for releasing GH wasn't brought up? Or was it?
axl said it would hinder cd.

we have no clue! ok

Well, it's fairly clear the album is not coming out March 6, or probably anytime in March (bare minimum) for that matter.

The thing that stands out the most now in my mind given the above is those canceled shows ... four shows canceled, yet no news on the album at this point.  Which means the album is almost certainly not in the record company's hands yet, which means that extra week or so gained had no real impact on the album's release, no?  So why bother?

I'm not saying that Axl is a dumb kid. What I'm saying is that Axl doesn't know everything.

He might know, he might not know. Me and you have no fuckin idea if he knows.

Why do most people in here think they know everything...?

None of you has NO IDEA what Axl knows or doesn't know.

Most of you make wild guesses about everything and act like you know what's going on.

Unfortunately, all of you (including me), have absolutely no fuckin idea.

So, to judge someone, without knowing him or knowing the situations he is in, is simply stupid.

You can call me someone who would protect or take Axl's side In every possible situation. I don't care.

What I know is that I have no fuckin idea about the whole situation and I won't judge anyone without the proper knowledge.

AND FOR THE MARCH 6TH RELEASE DATE AND ALL THOSE WHO REFUSE TO UNDERSTAND IT:

IT'S FUCKIN TENTATIVE...

I know to expect that, but man, that would be a real punch to the gut.

I might be wrong, but didn't he renegotiate his contract sometime in mid 90's that made it pretty iron clad? That's why Tom was fired, right? He didn't negotiate right away and they pretty much got screwed over in the late 80's.

If thats the case why did axl sue when GH came out? I'm guessing that was nothing more than what you said.. A rumor

Notice he lost.

And the reasoning reported was that the current contract contained provision for a GH album.  Axl sued because he thought HE got to choose when that CD came out.  The label figured they could do it whenever they saw fit.  And look who won....

What's funny is that Geffen has been out of the picture so long, it's hard to refer to the label as "David Geffen's" anymore.  Geffen's most recent label would actually be Dreamworks Records (now rolled into Geffen, too).

All I can say about these delays is that its a good thing for Axl that he's is in the business of music.

Because if he were a husband, father, friend, partner, client or neighbor or many other personal and professional relations, he would have lost all credibility years ago and his word has come to mean shit. He would be lousy in any of those roles, but because he's a talented rock star, we the fans give him the benefit of the doubt. But this could hurt future record plans and other things if he keeps this up.

Without question this has hurt record sales and his credibility is still in doubt. It could be so bad that one day, he'll be like Michael Jackson, who recently couldn't get a gig in Las Vegas because promoters believe he's that unreliable. That is a long way down from "Thriller." I hope Axl doesn't fall as far from his heights in the AFD era.

Anybody remember the Merck  "One day you might walk into the record store and see it there on the shelf" line? That was never gonna happen but this might.

FWTW I think in the next 3 weeks we will open any weekend newspaper and read an album review, along with the piss take, the $13m and 4 olympic games later comments but banging on about how the music industry is gonna handle the second coming of Gn'R etc, etc Then end with h a "Chinese Democracy will be released on.....X " tag line and soeth the promotion will begin peace

its a tentative date....so the answer is no....there is not enough time to promote the record for a March 6 release....even if they started promoting today...most bands promote albums for about 2 months before they come out....a single is usually out by now....

I can't understand hearing all this summer release B.S. Listen Axl and the label could be in contract neogations as we speak Hey they might be planning the promotion as we speak, Hell they could come out with a offical statement tommorow WE DON'T KNOW SO WE SHOULD JUST ALL SHUT UP AND WAIT I know its hard I come to this board everyday hoping that someone saw a video or the single was released to radio ALL WE HALF TO DO IS WAIT AND WHO KNOWS MAYBE THE WAIT IS ALMOST OVER.? It's been along wait 13 years but i'd rather wait that long then get a shitty album that just bombs when this CD could become one of the greatest and bring Rock n Roll back.
