If you're learning an instrument for the purpose of putting a band together and "getting a deal" to make a living from music that you can't even play yet, I'd say there are so many things wrong with your approach that your age isn't ever going to be a factor. You should stop now. There's a lot of ways to pay the bills; if you just want to cynically exploit music and musicians for profit, might I suggest starting a record label? Way less effort.

The odds of great musicians getting a record deal are very slim.

You never get too old. It's just an advantage being young.
In Denmark 2 old guys had their first hit when they had reached their 50s.
You'll never become Buckethead at your age though

Interesting point. If you wear a mask like Buckethead does though, no one knows what age you are!

hey don't listen to people trying to put you down, I learned how to play the guitar in over 2 years...and all bymyself... if you get someone to teach you then in 2 years you'll play great, granted as someone already said you won't be a virtuoso like bumblefoot or BH, but you'll be able to make your own songs. Everybody can learn how to play an instrument the hard part is having the innate talent to do something great with it.

25 is right though, you shouldn't start an instrument just cause you wanna get rich/famous. Definately start learning the guitar now because you'll enjoy it and thank yourself later. Don't stress out about getting a deal because you'll only make yourself miserable.

Alot of the major record companies these days don't even sign anyone over the age of 25. I know some A&R guys who have given me that tidbit of info. Now, that shouldn't discourage anyone (I'm 28 and still recording and submitting), but unfortunately thats the way the Majors work these days. It's all about image now.
The good thing is that indie labels are becoming huge which helps actual musicians regardless of age.

i would love to be in a massive successful band, but it's not my solo goal for learing an instrument, music is the only thing i'm really passionate about so the natural thing was to pick up an instrument.

It was bound to happen(after years and years of putting out shitty music), and it makes me wonder whether the internet and file sharing was not a way to bring democracy to the music world and destroy big evil labels.. I would've never get to know a lot of the music Im into if it weren't for downloading, and I would've never been to their concerts......

Fuck the industry. If you actually got some talent you'll soon enough recieve some buzz on the net if you do your homework, then do some gigs and before you know it those grumpy old executives will come and offer you the 'get fucked in the ass contract'.

to become a rich and famous guy with your music, is harder than winning the lottery.
just play for fun, for increasing your creativity... but never for money... if you wanna cash go to the university

Hmm. I'd say whatever age Keith dies is when you're too old.
