Joey Tempest of Europe mentions Gn'R

You called time just as grunge was stabbing the eighties in the back ? were you starting to feel the effects of that particular musical "genre" at all?
We felt the effects from our label. We had a huge contract with Sony in New York. Two things we noticed were that we couldn't make any live albums, they wouldn't allow us. We also felt that when bands like Nirvana were on the horizon that they changed their whole policy, and that's the problem with those big labels. I think we drifted apart quite quickly from them. I think it was good timing in a way, because even we thought the eighties was a bit over produced and over blown in certain ways. In 1989 we were with Guns and Roses in Tokyo and I saw a change in front of me. I just thought "This band is amazing". They don't even have a set list, their live show is terrible, they look like shit, but the kids are loving it! Two nights before we played with them we played another show and some of the guys from Guns were there looking at us, and then we went to look at them when they played, and the contrast was quite big. You could see the shift in the music world right there. Back then there was no internet, no word of mouth, because it would have been easier then for the fans to stay in contact with the band, but the only contact with the band was through the record company, and the scene had changed.

That's nice info?
, thanks thomass74!
Of course Europe is still alive, they released a new CD last year I believe, though I heard only one their single (on the radio). And Joey doesn't look so cute anymore?
(he has strange hair-cut).
80's revival?
- this one goes for you Jarmo?
Remember our talk on Van Halen and Europe??

Yes and believe it or not they sound pretty damn good.... I randomly picked up their latest CD a few weeks back after reading about it on Blabbermouth and it really is damn good. ?I probably haven't listened to them in about 19 years when I was like 13. ?Believe it or not they were my favorite band for a couple weeks. At that time I was all into teh cheesy hairbands because I didn't know any better.. That all changed real quick when I purchased Appetite For Destruction! After that I don't think I ever picked up that Europe tape again!

but the only contact with the band was through the record company,
and through the media/ the rock magazines/ the writers, perhaps.
I guess I prefer it now.

They don't even have a set list, their live show is terrible, they look like shit,
most of the guns performances ive seen were awsome and just because they didnt have their hair teased up and were wearing make up that means they looked like shit, i thought they looked pretty rock n roll

I guess you might say it was the final countdown of their career

And the concerts. Yep still those and the shows of late speak volumes.
What media have said are just nonsense, considering.

I'm sure that many of GNR's late 80s shows were sloppy, but I think what the fans responded to was the authenticity. The shows were wild and loose, but the guys always felt the music and connected to the fans. Europe was more of a prog-rock band, and was aiming for something else.
I watched some clips of Europe from their last tour, and Tempest's voice is amazing. He's as good as ever! A truly great rock singer, though I find his music uninvolving.

At least the guy was smart enough to know his band wasn't in the same league as Guns.
