Running is horrible for gaining weight.
If u run and play soccer u are definitely working out.
Running keeps u slim while allowing u to splurge every once in awhile.

alright, but i really dont like lifting weights and stuff like that,
i eat normally, not alot tho.
i thought the fact that i wasn't doing "building muscles" exercices was preventing me from gaining weight ?

WORK OUT with weights.? that way You will put on weight, but it wont be fat, but muscle. muscle weighs more than fat. and is better. Try to keep down cardiovascular exercise when you are building muscle. by that, I mean running etc.

Yeah I was just speaking on a technical level. like a researcher weighing rats on a gram scale. the reality is that it does throw things off for more than the equivelant of 1/3 of a day (for a skipped meal or cheated meal) or more than 1 day if a work out day is skipped. but in the grand scheme of things it makes little difference.

I have an obese person in my family. she's 60 and killing herself. i can see the sickness. sometimes she makes sex noises while eating something fattening and tastey. this is perplexing to me as i've never enjoyed a morsel of food in that manner in my entire life. and for people like that who ever want to turn it around, they have to walk away from oreo's, pizza and hamburgers and never look back. never. not once. not a single cookie. it's not even human food and that can't be argued.
the skinny guy thing is just as tough. we need to have a military style discipline to ever keep weight on. it's silly but true. and unless that type of discipline is adopted then we'll always drop back to minimum weight, which is 125 to 130 for me. i only eat when my body TELLS me to eat. And even then sometimes I just sit there for an hour and don't give a shit. or when i do finally eat, it's not enough to cram my stomach till it's full i guess because i'm not enjoying the food in that sick 'sexual' way mentioned above.

IN BETWEEN
MEALS EVEN IF YOU'RE NOT HUNGRY!? Also eat the three square meals and you'll find that the shakes work. they say to drink before, with or after a meal and that won't work for skinny guys with a shrunken stomach cuz you end up eating less food. But your stomach will stretch after a few weeks and it'll all be easier which reminds me, always eat 4 or 5 more bites during every meal and just to the point of feeling sick because your stomach has to be stretched. I know this.
Timing:
First meal
3 hours later a shake
3 hours later second meal
3 hours later a shake
3 hours later the thrid meal.
Healthy snack (1/2 meal) before bed
Meal every 6 hours with shake in between. Trust me?
Swim for excercise and you'll get a cool body and not all body-builder like. Like you'll get a normal fit body.
Swim or excercise in betweem a meal and a shake. (1.5 hours after eating which is the same as 1.5 hours before a shake)
The shake will only WORK if you excercise right
before
drinking the shake.

It seems like alot of milk but it's 1.5% or 2% so don;t worry about it. Also drink lots of water in between everything. Youre going to turn into a pissing and crapping machine. You'll be crapping twice a day.
I'm editing in the food I ate as I think of it. Im 5'8" and I went from 125 to 150 pounds in 2 months. My diet had exactly 4,500 calories in it including the two 500 calorie shakes. The first week or two you'll only gain weight slowly. Then you should put on an average of .5 pounds a day. The thing that sucks is you have to do all of this like an anal-retentive freak. You can't let a relative, a girl or anything let you miss a meal or miss a work-out or miss a shake. I used to bring the shake powder to work in a little baggy and another baggie with walnuts in it. It was fucking silly but my female co-workers were all sweatin' me after a month.?
If you drink beer/alcohol one night during a meal time, calculate the beer calories and make sure you get the rest of the calories from that meal time from bar munchies or the kitchen menu. Your body ends up gaining weight like clockwork, and missing a meal throws you 1 to 2 days off rather than 1/3rd of a day off like you would think. It's fucked up, but I know from experience. The SECOND thing that sucks is you have to keep most of this up for most of the rest of your life if you want to stay looking like a sexy bitch cuz it's our skinny guy curse. this I know too.?

Hi, I just got some protein powder stuff. I really need to gain weight im very skinny so at the mo I only have 2 dumbells that i work when i can. Iv never liked milk shakes. so tonight i mixed the powder with water. It was foul I couldnt take it and tipped it away in the end. What would you suggest is the best way to take it? its strawberry flavoured which i thought id like. Maybe mix richly with small amount of water and down it? it says also mix with fruit juice or milk
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

First off, you need to exercise. Even if you're trying to gain weight, you need to exercise for the physical benefits that have nothing to do with weight loss or weight gain. Running isn't ideal... running can really thin people out. Lifting heavy weights is good - even if you hate it. I hate it too so I can sympathize. You need to eat small, frequent meals, and good fats, like Jessica listed. Nuts, avocado, flaxseed oils, foods with omega 3 fatty acids.
Have a doctor check your thyroid - that could be a factor. Have your liver functions checked while you're at it.
Also, keep in mind it will be a slow process (unless you sit on your butt and eat cheeseburgers). I'm assuming you want to put on mass, not fat per se. Be alright with how you are now and the changes will come.
