Ah Shawn of the Dead - that ol'classic which starts as a comedy but then seems to think it could be a serious zombie flick and descends into people crying. Alot.

It doesnt seem to have been planned out in advance, as if they were making scenes up as they went along

And the whole film was just based on an episode of 'Spaced' - and the episode was vastly superior: playing resident evil 2 for so long you cant tell reality from the game - we've all been there!

oh wait, gone off topic - i'll be off to see this cos Mr Pegg is a genius (as shown by Spaced) - the blot on his career that is Shaun of the Dead doesnt change that...

I think not Shaun of the Dead is one of the funniest British Comedies for a long time

and?

Return of the King is apparently the 4th best film ever made according to the curious cross section of people who vote on that site nervous

You'll, at about this point, realise I was giving an opinion.

a) says alot about British comedy
b) so your opinion is more valid than mine eh?

Watch the episode of Spaced that 'inspired' Shaun of the Dead, so much better Smiley

I remember when this "spoof" zombie movie was coming out, Shaun of the Dead... I thought oh great another predictable crappy spoof movie... Then I saw it was a British comedy... So I figured what the hell, lets see how the Brits do spoofs... To my delight, I wouldn't have to... The only thing in common this movie had with any other zombie move was: the name, and "go for the head..."

I really thought the movie was down to earth.. Just regular people, finding out zombies were looking for them... I think its close to what would happen to everyday slackers with all around life problems.... It had its funny moments but never got ridiculous..

OK so after that little rant.. I cant wait to see Hot Fuzz!!

I've seen this already. It's excellent. It works the comedy/horror bit for the first two acts (with one of the best/funniest kills on film) and then goes into balls-out action mode for the final third. The commercials are a bit misleading though, in the two hour running time 90% of the action is in that last segment while the previous two acts are much more about the characters and the gags.

I liked "Shaun" a lot but Hot Fuzz is easily superior. Slicker, funnier, better.
