people dont seem to understand the importance of promotion. if this album is not promoted appropriately then it will be the end of gnr or new gnr at least. i am certain that the label will promote this album properly and in the traditional way similar to any other major release - a single 1 month prior to album release, video, tv and radio ads, magazines.... if album leaks then album will get released in less then a month.
there is not going to be any different that any other major release, and to people who thing that guns do things differently meaning not the traditional way(regarding the album release) they are wrong, is up to the label. it's not 1993 anymore when guns had power over the label. that power is long gone specially when label has invested $13 million in the making of this album.
if we dont hear anything by the end of january then forget the march release.
my personal opinion is that it's to quite in gnr world at the moment which means more delays for the album. remember this folks no news is not good news regarding the CD release, no news=label doesnt have the album. ?

I think I'm normally a pretty optimistic individual but.... I think it's looking pretty unlikely that "Axl's magnum opus" will drop on March 6th. In December after Axl & his Mgmt failed to deliver after insisting that 2006 was "the year", they gave us a tentative release date instead. Maybe history will repeat itself, for one reason or another he wont be able to deliver the album as he hoped on March 6 so instead we might see the single right around then. It wouldn't make the situation great... but it would make it

axl rose still has a lot of power at universal.....  the $13 million investment is one of the reasons.... the gnr name another..... great material could be another reason as well....

i think the 13 million was spent mostly by geffen before the merge with universal. i believe that the label is not spending a penny anymore on guns unless they have the album. axl said it himself a few years back that the label refused to release the album because they thought it wasnt good enough. why do you think there was no promotion for the past tour?

I went to a gig on the European tour and there was just as much promotion as any other gig during the year. 2 page spreads in most newspapers, ads on the radio, etc.

I think the only thing holding the album up at this point is Axl trying to perfect ' Prostitute '.   ok

this azlbum is 13 years behind , it needs no promotion when it drops , we have people who read the net , then hit the streets with promotion

Unsure about the power at 'universal'
axl says
"The band and I, along with our record company, feel that this record deserves the proper setup and promotion".

Tommy says GNR is touring at his site, which is good news.

not by the label but by the promoters themselves. if you think thats enough promotion for this album then 2007 is not going to be a good year for guns and us fans.

p.s this is a reply to rds.o6

Singles are meant for radio. Radio couldn't play the songs. Hell, we can't even put links to them on this site. How is that promotion?

Yeah, if Axl was in NY recently, there's a good chance he was at least playing a portion of the album for the label execs.  Singles used to come out about 4-6 weeks prior but that was before the downloading craze.  Now it seems like singles tend to come out closer to 2-4 weeks before a release.

For example, another major act...The Killers released their first single "When You Were Young" 3 1/2 weeks before the album came out.  Singles come out on Fridays so the radios can play them all weekend and create buzz for the coming week.

The radio station(s) I work for have been playing singles from albums due in March since the start of the year..

I certainly believe that. As far as GNR, I'm still looking at the middle of February, maybe the 16th. If we don't hear something then, then I think all of March is out of the question for a CD.

A month before the official release should be good. I can't understand why all of you thinks that the 6th of March date is official...

I didn't see Madison say anything about the matter, but Eric posted in his defense and locked the topic. (shrug) Oh well - we all know he's a bullshitter, and that's the important thing.  peace

he said something around january 14-16, right? Now lets count 2 weeks... 2 weeks mean 14 days. 16 + 14 = 30. He said about 2 weeks, the week is starting now. So what's wrong? We still have this week before flaming him ok
