I don't think a single is as big of deal as we make it out to be. I'd prefer long, epic songs that are less radio friendly then a 3 minute stereotypical rocker. For singles Id like to see Better, CD, and The Blues, but I hope the album is alot like TWAT, with a real epic sound.

Singles sell the albums to non/casual fans.
the die Hard fans do not keep a band platinum and successful, they have to get buys from people who arent fans but become fans thanks to singles. Sad but True...................
I am optimistic the album is coming out in March cause Axl promised if something came up, he would tell us and when the new date is.
So since we've heard nothing, i believe the album will come out sometime in March/earlyapril.
So I am looking for a single around Valentine's Day.

I think after Finck's first solo, the rest of the song needs to be fixed up. Hopefully this is what Axl is doing. The first few parts of that song are genious, but after that its just a big cluttered mess. BETTER, BETTER be the first single, Valentines day sounds good.

Are we sure that singles always come out a month before the album? Personally, I think that if the album were to come out in early march that we'd have album info + single in mid-February. Although we'll never know until it comes out: I would not be surprised if it came out early Feb or much much later.

No they don't.
Some people seem to forget that GN'R doesn't play by the "rule book". You have to do this, you have to do that....

Isn't that up to the record company to decide and plan, as soon as GNR handed out the album to them? Or how does this process work?

alot of bands release a single only days before the album release.. a week before or so.. Maybe to get more buzz
when the album actually is released. I have a feeling GnR may do it this way. But who knows..

Think GNR has already created enough buzz, so no need for that. I expect a single release date couple of days in advance, together with the CD release date. I don't expect any big anouncement, but a big promotional circus once it hits the shelfs.

Maybe there won't even be a single? Some bands do that with albums... Personally I don't think that would be a good idea though. Anyway I don't GNR would.

I still think they should have released Better to radio prior to the tour and should have released the Harley ad. It is just one song for christ sakes!
That way, if the song was received well, people would be salivating over the record for a few months and it may have sparked the "muse" to finish the album sooner. If the song was received sort of lukewarm, no harm no foul. It already leaked so why not put out the real version? We weren't going to get the album at x-mas anyway and Axl could have adjusted his potential tracklist based on the reception of Better. It could have been a real test instead of a half ass one like the leaked tracks.
