His guitars were pretty much stock.
I think him and Slash were together on the Ernie Ball slinky deal in the days after Appitite.
I think his picks were the fat triangles larger than regular picks but smaller than the big triangle pics.

Yeah his guitars are stock, most likely he still uses Ernie Ball (.11) and he's playing white coloured triangle picks.

In the Georgia Satelite days, he was using a Les Paul Jr. thru a Hiwatt head and cab.
Probably not much different.

^ We're expecting a new Rick Richards Q&A which should have an answer about the gear he's using today, favorite guitar etc.? Back in the JJH days it was the Les Paul Jr. and he probably still plays it, but I've seen several recording pics (from Izzy albums) and live videos where he uses this guitar which is also shown in this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcErZ8LMlJ0 (Rick is not the guy with the black LP on the left, but the guy in the middle who sings, he's got that black/purple guitar)

And this pic:

Besides the guitar mentioned above, which is most likely his favorite guitar cause he's seen so much with it, he also played standard Les Pauls and Fender Strats like he did on River and Like A Dog (mentioned in interviews and seen in recording pics)

About Izzy's equipment, the Izzy board has got a topic about it:

AFD: Gibson ES-175 - Fender Bassman 60's Blackface head with Mesaboogie 4x12 cabinet with EV speakers in the bottom and Celestions on top.

UYI: - Gibson ES-??? / Gibson Les Paul / Fender Telecaster / Carvin SH225S semi hollow body- Carvin XV-112EV Studio Tube Amp

Ju Ju Hounds:

Fender Telecaster '72 Custom
Gibson ES-175
Gibson ES-330
Gibson ES-335
Gibson ES-345
Gibson ES-350
Gibson ES-355 with a walnut finish
Gibson Les Paul Special with double cut
Gibson Les Paul Gold Top
Gibson Birland with the Florentine cutaway
Guild Starfire II 1962

Fender Bassman heads with a Mesa Boogie 4x12 cabinet with EV speakers in the bottom and Celestions on top

The other albums from what I've read in interviews:

117 degrees: Gretsch Country Gentleman? / Gibson ES-??? - Fender Deluxe Reverb (reissue)

Ride On: Gretsch Country Gentleman? / Gibson ES-??? - Fender Deluxe Reverb (reissue)

River: Gibson ZES-125? / Fender Telecaster '70 for most of the tracks - Fender Deluxe Reverb (reissue)

On Down The Road: Gibson ZES-125 - Fender Deluxe Reverb (reissue)

Like A Dog: Gibson ES-135 - Fender Deluxe Reverb (reissue)

Some recording pics:

Like A Dog (2003)

River (2001)

JJH (1992) and the Carvin amp ad 1990 + above Ride On (1999)

And finally from an Izzy Q&A one year ago:

3. How many guitars you have in your collection and which is your favourite one?

something between 12 and twenty-ish....favorites are the gibsons....les paul gold top....les paul jr.......es 135.

^ Everything around 5, he's said the general idea is to get a thick and warm sound. He also said the sound he prefers is a combination of country clean and Marshall distortion, which I guess would describe the sound on his solo (and GN'R) albums

If you wanna come close to his sound then just set your amp in Izzy's sound direction and play along with a song of him you like the guitarsound on, then just adjust your amp settings until you get very close to it. What kind of guitar and amp do you have?
