Sirius is always doing shit like this. Maybe if they hadn't paid Howard Stern $500M they wouldn't feel the need to say stuff like this.

Ok, I'd kind of like to break down your logic for a second.  So Sirius spent $500M on Howard Stern, and one of their plans to recoup that money is to report crazy rumours about a band that most of the mainstream has forgotten about?  Makes perfect sense to me.   Huh

TO add to all the rumors that have been floating around, maybe Sirius has worked out a deal to have a "release party" where they will have exclusive rights to play the album the day (or maybe night before) the release?  That would be WAY COOL!!!!  I have heard artists do that before with Sirius, although no one to "big"...anyone wanna guess of the chances of that?  It seems to me that they have been playing more GnR than usual...maybe thats a precursor to a release party...one can dream!

Their plan is to get as many subscribers as possible. We've had several reported GNR rumors on Sirius over the past few months, and as rabid as GNR fans are, I've read here that some people plan to get Sirius.

You really think most of the mainstream public has forgotten about GNR? Is that why Axl still shows up in the gossip sections of newspapers and magazines? Is that why Greatest Hits has gone multiplatinum in the past couple years? Is that why one of the leaks (IRS) actually charted on a radio industry top 50? Is that why The New York Times did a story on the making of CD? Is that why Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly and most every other music and entertainment magazine reported on Axl's letter?

That's some fine reaching to go along with your whine....

First, if you think that Sirius is perpetuating GNR rumours to garner further subscribers you're crazy.  So someone is going to spend $12 a month, plus the cost of the unit, just to get the next crazy GNR news tidbit that's probably already been floating around the message boards?  If anything, most people on here are signing up for satellite radio (and from someone who subscribes to Sirius) for the enormous amounts of GNR they play.  Seriously, if you're having a hard time finding GNR on your local fm, subscribe to Sirius as they seem to play GNR every 20-30 minutes.  Furthermore, the variety of GNR they play is fantastic.  The Hair Metal station even plays Coma.  I have a hard time believing that those in charge of marketing and subscribership are purposely promoting GNR news as a means to garner further subscribers.  The GNR contingent isn't something they're bending over backwards trying to capture.

The fact that you think this only goes to show how much more you see GNR as a relevant band than the rest of the world.  Axl is to a certain degree an icon.  But is GNR still relevant?  That's to be determined with Chinese Democracy (and to be discussed in another thread).  Has the mainstream world forgotten about GNR?  You're probably right, they haven't but only to find out what's taken 10 years and millions of dollars (and 'cause Sweet Child O' Mine is such a huge hit and you can't go to a sporting event without hearing WTTJ).  That said, seems people like Eminem, Jay-Z, Britney Spears and the like can't go anywhere without it being front page news.  Axl bites a security guard in a drunken rage and it's a blurb here and there.  Do people still care, yes.  But do they still care as much? As of now, with the new album still not out, it would would be hard to argue yes.

Finally, are people signing up to satellite radio for Guns N' Roses news like they would have back in the early 90s?  That my friend, is even harder to argue.

Cheers,

Andrew

A lot of buzz in the last 24 hours, eh?

Something is stirring alright. Going to be an interesting week or two. yes

Definitely. Anytime the rumor mill starts getting this busy after being so dead...

I wouldn't be shocked if a huge tour to support the album is on the horizon. If the album's finished, they'll turn it in, let the record company take care of getting it out, and GN'R will get back out on the road. I still say it'll be an Asia/Australia tour.

About fucking time we had some action, too.

My guess is they're going to tell the same information as Peter Coffin...
It was just an email. Could be BS because by the time it gets to who I know (I know some TV people - NOT music people) out there it's gone through several other people. Could EASILY be purple monkey dishwasher by now.

And if you're wondering, I noticed on my site stats that an extreme ammount of traffic was coming to my site from htgth, chinesedemocracy.com, and mygnr so I thought I would come stop by. I can't find the original thread someone posted something about me in, but someone said I used to be a user around here and I was.

Bringing Stern into a GNR conversation on makes no sense but I will comment

Stern has earned every cent Sirius has paid him - it was a very wise move.

Subscribers are up in the millions (5 million I think since pre-stern era) and they are repeat buyers for years.  Sirius is on the verge of burying XM

I'd say they did very well.

As for radio rumors take them for what they are.  We had the leaks before them - we'll have the dirt before them too.  I doubt people like Tawn Mastrey knows as much as we do.

She'll claim she does though..... That's business

I used to listen to Hair Nation quite a bit, but not so much anymore. It gets repetitive, even with the GN'R songs. I doubt they'd play any new GN'R. If there was some kind of cross-promotion with Guns N' Roses and Sirius, it would probably be on the Buzzsaw or Faction channels.
