Personally, I would like some more information about the new album because I'd like to be dishing out correct information when I talk to my friends (and anyone else wearing a GNR shirt). I think GNR has a great community here that they could easily leverage if they'd just give a little more information.

I've seen the new band 5 times since 12-31-2000 (ok, 3am 1-1-2001) and liked it. I like the new material.

Instead of saying "well, they SAID it would be out in 2006, but now nobody knows," I would rather be able to say, "oh, they hit a snag and it should be out ________. But TRUST ME, I've seen the new band and heard some of the new stuff and it is well worth the extra wait."

If I knew more about what was going on, I will (and i'm sure most others here would) gladly promote/defend GNR to my friends and anyone else who seems interested. I hope we get some information soon so that it is possible to continue to do so.

The only thing that you need to tell your friends is that it is this year !

I don't know that it will necessarily be worth the wait, but some of the songs (Better, There was a time) are more poignant because of the passage of time.? They make sense this way.

Imagine the strangth of axl's conviction in his own music, to just let fads like Grunge, Brit Pop, The Boy Bands, Metal Rap come and go, knowing that his absence would just make his music timeless.

It really is that easy.  That's still the official word.  It's not that hard.  Just say it slowly.

Uncle Axl said the album Chinese Democracy is coming out in 2006, and he hasn't taken back his statement.

Believe me, I'm as optimistic as ever, but I'm still a realist.
Axl hasnt taken back his word so I still believe its coming out this year.
But I also know that there is a chance it wont either.

If if it is this year, my feeling is its December 19. drool

Well, I was trying to make the point that a lot of us are-- to a small degree-- evangelists for this band. For every show that I've been to, I've brought at least one person who had their doubts. It wasn't a quota or anything; it just so happens that some GNR fans are like that. But they all came out excited and happy that they went.

And I'm not saying that I feel as though I am owed something in return. At all.

Actually, it is very much the opposite. I saw a great show and heard great music, and I want to continue to tell people about the return of GNR. Now that the shows have passed (my local area and comfortable travel area, at least), it seems time to talk about the new album.

I'll keep telling MYSELF that it's coming out Dec. 19, but I haven't seen or heard enough for me to tell anyone else that.

Cheers M8 beer

It's like the contract work analogy.  Let's say somebody agreed to complete a job for me by December 31 2006.  Do I start ranting about why its not done by December 11?  No.

.....But mind, you if the job was still incomplete by the time January rolls around....  I'll use the Donald Trump analogy.....You're fired!

i had this image the other day of the most dramatic (but impossible) promotion

You sitting at home, watching prime time TV. Suddenly all the power goes off apart from the tv which remains blamk for 10 seconds, then

"19 years ago...one band, changed the face of music, FOREVER

Now, 13 Years after their last album

THEIR BACK!

GUNS N' ROSES (plays clips of new songs)

Chinese Democracy

Coming December 19th

and on every channel its the same
Then all power returns and lights come back on and normal TV resumes.

doesnt the thought of that send a shiver down your spine?

Dude, Enron went out of business.  I doubt Axl would find a partner to pull that off like that now.

I think Axl knew what the future was gonna be like in '91, look he predicted it:

"Don't hail me
An don't idolize the ink
Or I've failed in my attentions
Can you find the missing link
Your only validation is living your own life
Vicarious existence is a fucking waste of time
So I send this song to the offended
I said what I meant and I've never pretended
As so many others do intending just to please
If I damned your point of view
Could you turn the other cheek"
 hihi

But seriously, those lyrics creepily apply to the current state of the album and some of the fans.
In my opinion of course.

I don't think Axl necessarily predicted the future, but he may have intended things to go like this.  You know the old addage, distance makes the heart grow fond.  Time does that too.  I always felt that Axl's photo in the Spaghettu Incident booklet portended a great deal.  He is sitting in the director's chair.  His face and intentions are concealed.  I initially thought he was just ashamed of the album.

Anyway, while we wait, check out the Crass Communication thread under dead horse.  We've got some hilarious Fun N' Games going on.  Anyone is welcome to join....

I can't even imagine how a link was made between the Don't Damn Me lyrics and the current state of the album.
