So because he was surprised by the fact the guy knew what chinese democracy was, you take that as him calling the whole country ignorant?  I am surprised when Americans know about the album, that doesn't mean I assume the whole country is ignorant. I think maybe you read to much into it, I don't think he meant it as a slam on the people of Brazil.  But maybe he can answer it better than me.
