I remember the Presidents of the USA released an album on election day 1996.? Best tie-in ever, but it didn't sell very well, even though they were coming off of a really hot debut album

Was that the one with Peaches?? I loved that song as a kid

Peaches, and Lump were on the first album if I remember correctly. They were just hear in Holland a few weeks back. A good, fun band. Would be a good support for GNR, someday.

rather than just plain pathetic?

i josh! i find it sad (sorrowful) rather than pathetic.

but the calls for the tuesday before msg are a good one. nyc obviously is axl's favourite place in the universe seemingly so it wouldnt surprise me if he didnt want to pass up the chance to make it even more special. (though i dont know what the itinerary is and how many shows are in between the tuesday and the msg show - if there is then maybe the theory isnt so solid).

but yea, it is again exciting times. this time even more so due to the more solid foundations of the events of the past year. things... things actually look good. (please, dont blame me for jinxing it if the unthinkable happens) (though you'd be well within your rights).

November 21st - strongest posibility... I think.

But don't forget Dec 26th (though I think it's crazy to release something after Christmas)

... and there is always an Oct. 31st! (nah!)

November 21st?  Not a possibility at all... if you think Geffen are going to put this record up against Jay-Z, you have another think coming.  It's a major release, and record company's in this day and age never put two major releases together - it'll hinder the chances of a number one spot.

He's right, I see little chance of gong head to head with Jay-Z and the U2 compilation (with 2 new songs)being released on the 21st.  Add the "new" Beatles release titled "Love" that may be coming out on the 21st and you have a full schedule.  I'd now scratch Nov.21st out along with Dec 5th (Eminem, Interscope's money maker).  I'm still sticking with my Nov 14th date (that I have said to you since June), but I wouldn't be shocked to see this come out the week before or after xmas.

The U2 album is on Interscope as well as the Eminem album. Interscope will have a nice 4th quarter if Chinese is released also. Grin

though a lot of people are out and about that day, the 26th is not the biggest shopping day of the year, its actually the biggest day for returns.
black friday is the biggest shopping day of the year.

Actually, Black Friday (Friday after Thanksgiving) is concidered to be the biggest shopping day of the year in the U.S. But I believe the day after X-Mas is a close second (returns, exchanges and gift certificates).

If CD is released before the end of the year (which I think it will be) they'd be CRAZY to not release it before X-Mas. The Tuesday's of late November and early December are coveted by the music industry (as well as others) as they always bring in big bucks from the Holiday shoppers. The fact that it's Guns N' Roses means it will sell well regardless, but releasing it during the Holiday season will certainly garner even better sales.

The fact that Jay-Z and U2 have discs coming out on the 21st is irrelevent when it comes to sales (as those discs will share the majority of their time on the shelves with CD and continue to sell well regardless of when CD comes out and vice versa). As long as it's released before or during the peak Holiday shopping season, a week or two here or there may help jump start sales (and gain a better debut chart position), but I don't think, in the end, it'll make much of a difference sales wise.

As a fan I say, hell, the earlier the better!

Maybe it won't affect overall sales... but they're going to want it to get the number one spot.  Record labels plan their release schedules on when the major releases are most likely to top the chart.

Actually I think in recent years, the 26th and a couple days in the week before Christmas have turned out bigger than Black Friday.
